NoSuch Dame LB Manti "Snugglebunny" Te'o (official imaginary thread)

Agreed 100%.

In fact, if this is the case and it comes out that any of ND's coaches or administrators were involved in the lie/cover up, it will set back ND's image decades, as far as sexual diversity and acceptance. The stigma, right or wrong, will be that ND only truly accepts strictly heterosexual individuals.

Much the same way that Penn State chose to bury their heads in the sand when they had a chance to take a stand against child molestation and now the entire university has the Ped State stigma attached to it.

Especially since Notre Dame has a "Core Council for Gay and Lesbian Students."

http://corecouncil.nd.edu/

Now, there is one thing that we all have to keep in mind. The school is still governed by the Catholic Church, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure the folks in Italy would appreciate if one of the big money draws in the church had made that money with the help of a player who they say is against what they allegedly believe.

But then again if Te'o is using this girl to cover up a gay relationship why does he kill her off?

Because if he kills her off he doesn't ever have to be seen with her AND/OR with any other girl. He can play the sensitive heartbroken straight guy who will never love again. That would be his stock answer from then on as to why he's never seen with women.

My point exactly Gay is mainstream..and accepted .so why the lie..maybe sexual preference has nothing to do with it so WHY? Manti your turn?

Well, just look at the crap that Tebow has taken because of his religious beliefs.....

I respect Tebow for what he believes in. He's getting a message out there for those of us who believe in God and salvation through Jesus.

However.....doesn't change the fact that he's not much of a professional football player. But people being his belief into the comparison of his playing ability.

We also need to keep in mind that we aren't the ones in his shoes. If he is gay (which he may or may not be), he is the one who would have to deal with the firestorm that may (or may not) accompany his coming out.

It's easy for us to say how accepted it is, but how many openly gay football players can you name? Hell, how many openly gay men can you name from the big four sports?

As accepted as it may be in mainstream society, being gay is still not a popular lifestyle in the locker room. (No Penn State jokes are necessary here - although they will be appreciated.)

Be advised -

The theory that T'eo is homosexual seems to have merit and is a topic of discussion that is fine. However, this post constitutes your warning - talk about it like adults. If people start gay bashing and what not, we're not going to hesitate dropping the hammer.

A couple posts have toed the line... not of bashing necessarily, but of "name calling"

Capice?

Well, first of all... yes, please be careful how far this goes.

Second, in all honesty... I'm not sure it does have merit. It makes way too much sense. If ever there was a story that defied the laws of the most probable explanation, this is it.

I haven't read this whole thread but my thoughts were, as soon as I heard about this that he is gay and was using this "fake girlfriend" to cover for the fact that despite being probably one of the most eligible bachelors on campus, nobody had ever seen him with a woman. He could have just used his faith as an excuse but whatever. Also, he could have just come out of the closet. This is going to be very embarrassing for him.

If he is gay I jope that the gay community helps him with his "transition" to being out and not try to use him to further their cause. If he is fine, I think we've gotten past the point where we as a society have to make a big deal about it.

I don't think it has anything to do with him not wanting to come out as a gay ND athlete. More likely it has everything to do with him not wanting to come out as a gay Mormon.

Probably all of it. The Mormon thing (not the most forward thinking group when it comes to acceptance of sexual orientation). The ND thing (ND isn't Jesuit like Georgetown or BC; it has a very conservative administration and alumni base) and the NFL thing (no NFL team is going to take an openly gay "distraction" in the first round).

If Te'O was a no-talent linebacker playing at Brown, he probably would have been able to overcome the Mormon thing. Throw the ND culture and lure of NFL millions into the mix, and I'm sure that it was just too much.

The gay angle is the only thing that makes sense. Not even Tebow is stupid enough to fall for a stunt like this.............although he just might be gay enough to attempt to pull it off at some point.

I would believe Teo except for one piece that is just way too glaring...

3+ YEARS.

2009-2012.

His whole college football career.

They supposedly knew each other for 3 years, and not once in 3 years did Teo meet this "girl". Never? He basically flew over "her" every time he went back to Hawaii.

C'mon.
