Notre Dame (football only discussion)

The reason I believe that is because it seems that the cavalry is on the way, in the form of new recruits and young players already wearing the gold helmet who are developing into the shock troops we need. Granted, some of Charlie's recruits are confusingly, it seems, going backwards in their development, but I expect them to improve.

So is Dayne Crist officially the new savior? Seriously, how many times did these people get dropped on their heads as children?

One of the posts from there...and some thoughts. My thoughts in bold obviously...

First and foremost, that we will improve considerably from this point this year to the beginning of next year. We have reason to believe that will happen, given incoming talent and the things that CW has said about learning from this year's pitfalls (He hasn't learned to stop overeating yet, so...). Still, it is more than fair to argue that incoming talent is still unproven talent, and recognizing problems is different than solving them.

Let's give Weis the benefit of the doubt for a moment, to a reasonable extent, and give the (entirely rational) "Willingham left the cupboard bare" excuse some credence (Whatever happened to the dead horse smilie?). Given those assumptions, here's my evaluation.

SDSU - Win. They suck (right?) (yes). We currently (right?) (yes), and will next year (suck? Yes.), outgun them at every position (Really?).

Michigan - Loss. They kicked our asses this year. They lose a lot of high quality players, but they're not bereft of talent. We'll win this game as often as we'll lose to Stanford, which isn't to stay it couldn't happen, but as a predictor, figure we'll lose to Michigan and beat Stanford (Uh...What?).

MSU - We'll win this as often as we lose to Purdue. MSU will be better next year, but they'll still be MSU (Huh???).

Purdue - We'll win this as often as we lose to MSU. (This is to say that I think we will fare no worse than 1-1 against MSU and Purdue together.) They lose their QB, and once again, they're Purdue. We almost beat them this year, in a sense(What???).

Stanford - Win. They suck. They'll still suck next year. They beat USC, but they still suck. We'll lose this game roughly as often as we'll beat Michigan (OK, I'm Lost. WTF is all this "we'll lose this as often" crap?).

North Carolina - Win. We have more talent and better coaching (Talent yes, but coaching?).

Washington - Win. We have more talent and better coaching (You sure about that?). Both of those are reasons to flip the bird at the opponent's coach, in my opinion.

Pittsburgh - Win. We have more talent and better coaching. For proof, see Game 1, 2005, and the seasons that followed.(I see, what happened in '05 will happen in '08. Got it.)

Boston College - Loss. Let's be conservative, and pretend they aren't overrated, and pretend they aren't losing their entire offense when their quarterback graduates this year.

Navy - Win. Continue the streak. Yes, Despite the fact that I think we'll be roughly 13.5 point dogs this coming weekend, we're going to beat Navy.

Syracuse - Win. By 80 (:slappy:). Which may be more points than we score through all of 2007 ( Ok, That's funny...and true).

Southern Cal - Win. Because, well, fuck them. We owe them one, and Stanford did it this year.( Can't argue with that logic)

I have us at 9-3 or 8-4. Where am I wrong (almost everywhere)? Why do I feel like I'm being irrationally and characteristically overly optimistic (Because your coach is an egomaniacal fraud)?

I like how that guy talks shit about Stanford sucking, and then his argument for why they'll beat USC is because Stanford did, basically saying that ND sucks just as badly, and if Stanford can do it even though they totally suck, so can Notre Dame.

I like the post about the 2008 schedule being made for a NC. I really did laugh out loud at that one.

On the surface it's all funny stuff but when you stop and consider these people live among us and are actually so far out of touch with reality that they honestly believe this shit...it's kind of disturbing.

I mean these people are allowed to do real, important things. Like vote for congressmen and the president. It really is a scary thought.

........except USC smoked ND by 38 with their backup QB  which presents a loophole

Fuck voting....they are driving cars, bringing you your food and shit like that. :yow1:

In the grand scheme of things voting for one lying bastard politician over another really isn't that big a deal, its not like you'll ever come face to face with them again.

One of these delusional bastards spends a little too long in fantasyland and they can flat fuck up your day.

I have to say that I was unaware of how deeply dysfunctional the Notre Dame fans were until I started hanging out here. Sure, I did not like ND, as I was raised right. My dad informed me as a youngster that going for a tie to preserve a National Championship was the mark of a worthless program. The arrogance of ND in wanting its own TV deal, and the long string of appearances in bowl games that they did not deserve to me in clinched it.

But none of that prepared me for their "logic" in talking football. The closet thing we have are Bammers. They are as deluded, but at least they can play good football once in a while.

And I'd be a billionaire if I'd formed microsoft.

I was really hoping the Michigan game would be

the nadir of Charlie ball. But as long as we have reached the low point im ok with that.
I bet he's just been waiting to use the word "nadir" in a post.

Honestly, I don't really have a huge problem with the program. I am one of those people who thinks when they are good, it's better, I like rooting against them, and to be honest, it's really not that much fun this year. I have a long line of family who are tOSU alumni, and then my brother goes and roots for ND? The family is laughing at him, I am laughing at him. I remember living in OH and having to see the ND game on Saturday, then it replayed on Sunday just to remind us, and it felt like it was rammed down our throats.

My brother has no such memories.

Back to the point, when they are good, they are the perfect "bad guy" but they havn't been for a long time. It's gotten to the point where it's pathetic for their fans to have the arrogance they have. People say "they are college footballs version of the yankees/lakers/cowboys" but the difference I see is they have been down for 15 years, those other teams, even though they are professional, have not been. So there's a reason for those fans of the professional team to cheer, when the hell does ND fan actually sit back and go "shit, we need to change some things" instead of "we're independant so we can schedule who we want."

Here's a dose of reality for Notre Dame fans, everyone wants you on their schedule, you know why? You suck and everyone wants a piece of you. Don't feed me that academic standards crap because that's not your problem, your problem is your unrealistic coaching expecations.

I genuinely don't believe the ND fans know how recruiting works. I think they have seen too many Star Wars movies and in their minds Charlie is has one of those factories where they are cloning armies.

Parity is a fact. Take a look back and you will find that the Kentucky's and South Florida's and Boston Colleges didn't suddenly land #1 recruiting classes. Rather they had competent coaches who knew how to develop players. Players with far less pedigree than ND has as Juniors and Seniors.

This is the point that underscores Charlie's failure that they continue to ignore. These kids aren't failing because ND didn't recruit good players - they are failing because in three frikin years Weiss has not developed good players.

Reading the ND boards is like reading the diary of a 12 year old girl who fantasizes about dating Justin Timberlake.
