Notre Dame (football only discussion)

ND to win 2007 NC!!!

Listen here all you Notre Dame haters, behold my COMPLETELY rational explanation for why ND is gonna crush LSU in the NC game this year. What??? Oh yes, that's right, ND can easily beat LSU. Why you ask? Well simple:

ND beat UCLA
who beat BYU
who beat Air Force
who beat Wyoming
who beat Virginia
who beat UConn
who beat Louisville
who beat Cincinnati
who beat Rutgers
who beat USF
who beat Auburn
who beat Florida
who beat Kentucky
WHO BEAT L S U

All you cheesburger 'n Charlie Weiss hatin' motherfuckers stick that in your pipe and smoke on it!

I was about to post this in the Mike Floyd thread but thought it would fit in better here.

I find it interesting that presumably Mike Floyd was lured to ND by promises of early playing time (as others have said), however, as Jimmy Clausen has proven, if you throw a bunch of freshman to the fire with early playing time without a solid team around them they will be eaten alive.

It just seems like this strategy of throwing freshman in early will only compound ND's ineptitude or at the very best allow ND to have a decent team once every three or four years.

Out of all the bad things you can say about Weis and Notre Dame, I think by far their biggest problem is that Weis has absolutely no idea how to develop players. He is used to throwing any old NFL player into his system and them being able to pick it up. He has absolutely no clue how to turn a high school player into a productive college player. And playing talented freshman immediately won't help things very much in my opinion.

The Notre Dame pitch:

"Are you a talented high school football player? Come to Notre Dame and be thrown in the fire right away, good luck surviving, if you make it through to your senior year, you might have developed into a decent NFL prospect, if not, you will be replaced but another incoming freshman in a year or two. Play like a champion today, right away... or else."

Evan, your 'daisy-chain' is exceptional. You probably need to get a life, but....it's great. thanks. You could probably do one so that the Buckeyes beat themselves, and that would add creedence to our being #1.

Buckeye86, you are 'dead-nuts' on. Ever since the days of Ron Powlus, Notre Dame coaches have not been able to 'coach up' their players. Gone are the days when ND comes into a state and says, 'you're the #1 running back in the state of (insert here)? We'll take you.' and gather up all of the best players. Now, you have to go for the legacies and the bloodlines and hope they get better. Brady Quinn was thrown into the fire, and came out pretty darn well, but there's many of the ND recruits that regressed, and one year, Hamstead State had TWO players drafted before the first Domer....(maybe Humboldt, but you get the picture).

On the other hand, coaches are teachers first and foremost. They need to have the concept, but then they need to impart to their kids. If they cannot do that, then they (the team and the kids) suffer. Buckeye 86, you must be a teacher because you recognize those factoids.

Look at Tress & Co. Malcomb Jenkins 2 or 3*, now will be first or second CB drafted. Laurinaitis was a 2 or 3* also, same thing. Sometimes it's the system, most of the time it's the kids guts, desire, and intelligence, plus the patient teaching of the coaches. OSU has that in spades. Look at women's basketball, men's basketball, and of course football (baseball also). Good teaching (and results) brings in a better caliber of athlete, but if you notice, some of the 4 & 5* players are sitting behind the 2 & 3*. So, yeah, the * system is not all that great also......

Sorry for the Monday morning rant, but hey, the Big Ten doesn't need Notre Dame as much as it needs us, and I don't want to see us dilute our conference any more than it is. Bring on the bowls, and by golly, let's have the B10 teams kick some SEC/ACC/Big 12 booty!

I'd love to take credit for researching that but I just swiped it from some guy (who presumably has less of a life than I do) named swimmerja on Mandel's blog. Granted he had it in a reversed clunky order but he (or someone he swiped it from) did all the hard work.

I do love how all the SEC-heads seem to forget those 2 bowl losses to big10 teams

Here's hoping there are plenty more this year! :osu:
