Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

pete caroll's whole gimmick is DEFENSE, and 2006 rose bowl aside, he does a helluva job with. he shut down scUM twice and peterson in the orange bowl.

he keeps talking about this years class being his best recruiting class because of the players (galippo and griffen specifically) hes getting.

You are completely out of your damn mind. We were talking about Vince, so, what their defense did prior to the 2006 Rose Bowl is irrelevant since that is the only game they played against Vince. USC gave up 556 yards and 41 points. That blows. That is a defense that is not good. USC's defense was trash. Florida had one of the top ranked defenses in the Nation coming into that game. Troy would have taken that USC defense apart if they played in that game against SC instead of Texas. I do think Troy would have been more successful had the coaches got our running game established further. That is a whole other painful, and agonizing discussion. So take your weak arguments somewhere else.

He had a really good stats this season and always had to come back in games. Or at least keep up due to ND's horrible defense.
There were some games like this, but plenty of others where his D played well enough. 10 pts vs GT. Against UM, The D barely gave up more points than Quinn gave up via turnovers (21). Against UCLA his D yielded 17, and gave him a million chances to comeback (he was lucky to get the ball back after yet another failed drive w/ 3 min left).

He's 6'4" 224lbs and his mobility always can keep a play alive, Elway like.
Are you basing this entirely off of the USC game? He rarely eluded defenders like that in the past against UCLA, UM, GT, or OSU.

He has good mobility, but can't make guys miss regularly. Actually, I think Frye seems a little quicker when scrambling than Quinn (and I've only watched Charlie against NFL athletes).

maybe if you knew anything about the browns you would know the #1 thing they've lacked is stability at the QB position. Yes I watch games and I look at more then the score or stats. I watch WR drop balls. I watch the line not block. Oh wait I forgot BuckeyeMike is always right and where all wrong. Sorry to ruin your comback and say I'm not the only person that think Quinn is the best fit for Cleveland.
Quinn can be a very effective passer only if he has time, which he will not in cleveland. There was a reason his big game performance dropped off in 06... protection. He is not athletic enough to make up for a porous line.

If you want them to draft Quinn as a long-term fix, and slowly rebuild the line over a few years... I can buy that.

But for 2007, I would expect similar execution from the QB position whether it is Frye or Quinn. The former would avoid more blockers, the latter might make a few better decisions.

Wow, another person in here riding BQ's sack. It's hard to have stability at QB when the line is so horrible that it either gives the QB no time to throw or gets him killed, ie, Tim Couch. This team has so many more pressing needs than another project QB. As I stated before in this thread, BQ is not impressive at all. He has never won a big game, he is not a leader, he is OVERRATED. If they draft a QB it had better be Troy Smith in the 2nd Round. 1st pick needs to be either Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson. By the way, BuckeyeMike is right on with his analysis Newbie.

Since coming back in 1999, stability at the QB position is not their #1 concern. Ahead of stability at QB, and in no particular order, would be: coaching, offensive line, defensive line, running back, offensive line, coaching, and offensive line.

Stability in any position is a function in stability in the coaching staff. Stability in an offensive skill position is a function of the offensive line.

While I am not discounting the need for stability at the QB position for the Browns, I am discounting your assertion that it is the #1 thing they have lacked.

Yes. But which one do I have on my ignore list...The master or the apprentice?

Probably the master... King has learned enough to not compare Quinn to Elway.
I still suspect they're all NDC though -- and he does this just to get his kicks out of Buckeye fans.

To be fair to these guys (a little bit). There are a lot of Browns fans/non-tOSU fans, on other boards, that want Brady. At least there were when I stopped going to any scout board since the crap ass format change. Most, however, realize that, even if they are in love with Dreamy Quinn, a rookie QB isn't going to do shit for a coach that's got one year to get off of the hot seat.
