Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I think you're being niave if you think a kid's hometown is even part of the discussion on Day 1 of the draft. I've seen some teams take a late round flyer or invite to camp to a local guy, but never a major factor in a high draft pick. That's something fans love to discuss, but its a non-starter.

If it isn't, it should be. I don't think staffs should draft a kid higher than he's "worth" -- but if you've got a pick where you've evaluated a local kid's talent to be, I think you'd be acting wilfully ignorant to not factor that in.
Having said that, there is a reason why you don't see anybody saying we should draft Teddy. Everyone knows we don't really need a WR or return man right now. We all know Houston made a huge mistake last year.
With all that, I think we need to hire a veteran QB and use our 1st round pick (at least) on a need position. But I think it'd be a shame to pass Troy by in the 2nd (if he's still available).

This talk is all well and good, but we know that whoever we pick in rounds 1-4 will end up on a back board en route to some hospital within 3 months of the draft. Hell, Rothlesburger (sp?) got hit by a car for just being from Ohio!

I'll say it again. If the Browns take any QB on the first day I will become a fan of another team. They better not take another scummer either. OL is by far the biggest need. Give me Joe Thomas in the first and the best guard in the second. If Thomas is taken AP would be fine.

I know it's been said before, but hell, I'll do it again. I think we better address the OL via free agency as best as we can. Then grab a couple more in rounds 2,3, and/or 4. I don't think Thomas is worthy of the #3 or #4 pick in the first round. But I do think there are some deep skill positions in this draft.

Because Frye and Anderson are so talented right?

If BQ is there, we take him. He fills a major need for the team. Remember, Phil is a BPA guy.

Joe Thomas at #3 is a reach anyways. Do you really think a line can be built through the draft in one year? No, it can't. We gave Shafer a big deal before the season, and we aren't going to be drafting a LT.

I think Shaffer can move to RT. Or even Thomas. Regardless, we need more depth at OT -- I don't care what side they plan on at this point.

Quinn would be a horrible pick for Cleveland. He could work out great somewhere else (not Oakland or Detroit), but with as much as he'd get hit next year -- disaster. Brady doesn't deal well with getting hit. He just lays down, fumbles, or throws interceptions.
Furthermore, we need far more than a mere QB right now -- drafting a QB with #3 overall would be a complete waste when we need a lot of help on both sides of the line and CB.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Quinn has all the tools to be a very succesful QB in the NFL. But he would be completely ruined in Cleveland.
