Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

I see a few people who feel the Browns "overpaid" for Brady Quinn......in reality they got a franchise QB this year instead of drafting one next year. It is fair to say that the Browns would have been looking for a franchise QB next year.......Charlie Frye is not the answer. I like him as a player but that is the truth. So in that sense, they didn't lose a pick, they merely moved up 14 picks to get Quinn who by most was considered a top 5 player in this draft. They got Thomas which was a key. Teams win up front, it is good to see them make the solid and safe choice.

Moving up to get Eric Wright was somewhat of a suprise, but Wright has tremendous upside.......its a risk because of his character issues, lets hope that is behind him. Some had him going in the second round, it is realistic to assume that if he had stayed at USC he would have been a first round pick, he has first round talent.

In my opinion, they got 3 quality first round talent players at this point. Definetly a step in the right direction. One last thing, lets try to not let our feelings towards ND cloud our opinions of selecting Quinn. There are more than a few teams that felt he can be a franchise QB and some that don't........I simply like the fact he wants to play in Cleveland and in my book that will give him more rope than most players.

I have to admit I can't ever remember being this happy with the way my Brownies were doing in the draft. I love what Savage has done with the first 3 picks. All three fill a valuable whole that the team had and all three I believe will have an opportunity to make an impact immediately. I just hope they can get some kind of value out of the rest of our picks but like I said right now I couldn't be happier. GO BROWNIES!

That's similar to my take. I thought we should've taken Thomas, taken a RB in second/third, and use the other second/third round pick on a CB. Give Fry one more year, and if need by go for a QB next year(though the pickings look slim for next year).

I think people are seriously underestimating how much value the Browns got out of getting Quinn that late. They just picked arguably the best QB in the draft in the twenties.

We also have plenty of cap room, so losing the first next year shouldn't sting as much.

This team is trading like it needs two pieces to get to the Super Bowl. Why are they throwing away picks like this?

I agree, very odd... Savage has to hit on his few draft picks he has and I like the pick of Eric Wright, he is a big time talent. All three of these picks have potential to be very good players (or busts). Savage needs to hit on 2/3 at least.

We gave up too much, plain and simple. Maybe a 2nd and 3rd this year or simply our #1 next year would've been ok but #2 this year and #1 next year was too much. But Savage, regarded as one of the best talent evaluators in the league, staked his job basically on this pick. If the Browns do horrible this year and end up giving away a top 10 or top 5 pick Savage probably loses his job. So since Savage is staking his job on the pick of Brady Quinn, I'm going to trust Phil on this one.

I am going to have to 110% disagree on the opinion, Cleveland "overpaid". Simply put they got their franchise QB a year early. Savage gets critized when things have not worked on some players, lets give him some love for in my opinion, drafting 3 players with first round talent and adding talent at three positions of need. To get players that turn around a team, you have to give up something in return. In my opinion they didn't give up anything, they simply moved up 14 picks to get their guy.

i liked the joe thomas pick, idk about giving up 1st round next year and 2nd this year though.. we could have picked up trent edwards second round or troy smith 4th or 3rd round.. but much better than picking brady at #3. i think he'll be a bust, but now i hope im wrong..

Quinn can play fellas......lets be objective and not let our feelings towards ND come into play....he has the arm, the experience in a pro offense and he can move in the pocket......their is no question from anybody in the NFL he can play in the league, the reason he fell down to #22 is simply other teams had priority needs other than QB. Miami.....I have no clue why they took Ginn with no QB available unless they end up getting Trent Green.....

Quinn is a average qb at best that is why he fell to 22nd in the draft. The owners and coaches of the nfl teams seem to see what I see, that Quinn is an average qb. Honestly in this draft their is not franchise qb. Russell is the best then Brady, but their really isn't that much of a difference between Beck, Edwards, Quinn, and Russell. Good luck to the browns and I hope you guys do turn around your franchise.

Ok, be honest now, if Quinn is average, what does that make Henne?
