It is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early(no pun intended) to call this one. IMO we end up with a class of 25...we have offered alot more people than I thought and we continue to hand out offers.

We have room for 25? All the lists I've seen, have this class at 21, maybe 22

Yep and they said the same thing last year 17 maybe 18. The coaching staff is still offering players...Alot of people think they are taking 5 DB's and 5 OL IMO they are willing to take 6 of each. There may be a few players not coming back for their 5th year like Alex Barrow which will open up another 2-3 scholarships...there may be some transfers as well...the staff isn't offering for spots not available.

They didn't have a class of 15 or less waiting in the following year. Load up on 25 players and now you are limited to 10-12 signees in 2012.

Which is how they get to 22 from 19.

Sam Webb: Recruiting
Ohio DB Eilar Hardy a big fan of MSU, but there are other contenders

Defensive back recruiting is a major point of emphasis for Michigan State this year, and the Spartans didn't have to go far to find one of the top targets on their board. Pickerington (Ohio) Central defensive back Eilar Hardy is ranked the 16th-best safety prospect in the country according to Scout.com. But the 6-foot, 175-pounder could be No. 1 in the eyes of the Green and White.

"Hardy is a major priority for Michigan State in the Class of 2011," said SpartanDigest.com publisher Dave Berk. "The Spartans have put a lot of time into recruiting him and have ties with the family. Mark Dantonio coached Eilar's brother (Terrance Brown) when he was an assistant at MSU."

In addition, current Spartan Patrick White is a former teammate of Hardy's and is a major reason Michigan State is high on his list.

Berk added: "Hardy has the skill level to play early at Michigan State."

Eilar Hardy's abilities 'jump out on film'

(AP)

PICKERINGTON, Ohio ? Eilar Hardy didn't have to look far to find a football hero growing up.

His brother, Eisen, was two years older and the pair was always playing games outdoors and doing a little roughhousing inside with their father.

"Oh, we broke a lot of things, put it that way," Bill Hardy said. Eilar "was a couple of years behind but he was so competitive."

The sibling rivalry helped produce two standout players for Pickerington (Ohio) Central. Eisen is a sophomore at nearby NCAA Division II Ohio Dominican University in Columbus and Eiler (Eye-ler) ? on The Associated Press East Region 25 list of top recruits ? has verbally committed to Notre Dame.

"I definitely grew up wanting to be like" Eisen, Eiler said. "My brother's a great athlete. I look up to him as much as anybody. He had great, successful career at Pickerington Central and I wear his number (4). That's the family number now."

Like his older brother, Hardy is a running back and defensive back but it's his abilities in the secondary that caught the attention of many colleges, including Michigan State and Penn State.

"What sets him apart is he's kind of that hybrid defensive back where he can play safety and tackle but he also can play corner and run man-to-man," Central coach Jay Sharrett said. "To have those two characteristics and those two athletic talents has really made him jump out on film and that's when a lot of the Division I offers came."

Miami (OH) would be the logical destination for Hardy since Chuck Martin, who previously served as Notre Dame’s secondary coach turned defensive coordinator, took over as the head coach of the Redhawks program in 2014. There is an obvious connection with the man that originally recruited him.

As a graduate transfer, Hardy will be able to play immediately for his new team.
