OH LB/TE Michael Ferns (Michigan signee; transfer to WVU)

I was in St. Clairsville a few weeks ago. I was blown away at the amount of WVU flags and apparel the locals display. I am not surprised by Fern being a WVU...even so, OSU academics are infinitely superior to WVU.

Does that mean you're taking him as a lean to tOSU? Because I've seen a great number of couch and dumpster fires in cbus

Me thinks you need to find some new friends or a new place to live... or you need to stop exaggerating and/or being so dramatic.

Also, the academic standing of the two schools has less than nothing to do with how many things are set on fire around football contests.

Buckeyes growing on Ferns

Michael Ferns is fond of Ohio State and the 2014 recruit showed it Wednesday by making his second unofficial visit to Columbus.

An inside linebacker for St. Clairsville, Ohio, Ferns walked away impressed.

“We weren’t looking so much into the sports side this time,” Ferns said. “With the offer, we made a trip back.

“It was just a better trip overall. Now, I know more of the staff. It was more personable. I enjoyed this trip a lot more than last time. They really opened up to me. I want to go into the medical field, so they took me over there for a bit. I got to talk to Coach [Urban] Meyer. It was more down to earth. It was just enjoyable overall.”

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Ferns indicated he will wait until the end of summer to narrow his list down, but for now Ferns has unofficial visits planned to Penn State this weekend and Michigan the following weekend.

It will be trip No. 2 to Penn State for Ferns and trip No. 1 to Michigan.

“I’m expecting more of the private deal that I got Wednesday,” Ferns said. “It’s more sitting down with the coaches and really getting to see the academic part of it. I feel like these next two trips will focus on that.”

First time I've watched the full film...wow, what a player. I honestly think Ferns is the prototypical H-Back in our system. He is a willing and physical blocker, great hands, perfect size and frame, uncanny athleticism, and can make things happen with the ball in his hands. Above all, his quick release off the ball is honestly better than any TE I've seen in the '13 class, let alone '14.

However, he does look like a great read-and-react MIKE...he actually possesses good closing speed but he plays under control and so fundamentally fills his gaps on film, you almost miss that. We've already offered two TE's for '14, but we also have offered Booker and Garrett (I expect us to land both), plus I think Davonte James will get an offer (and accept). In essence, Ferns is a great value and can be a star at either position. Shoot, with his height he could eventually end up at DE/LEO, as he looks every bit of 6'4.
