Game Thread Ohio State 24, Michigan State 17 (final)

An anecdote which may be of interest:

Many years ago, the late Sammy Davis, Jr. was part of the Will Maston Trio, along with his father, Sammy Davis, Sr. and his uncle, Will Maston. When Jr. was ready to break out as a single act, he said to Sr.:

"Hey, Pop, I'm the greatest tap-dancer in the world!"
Sr. "How do you know that?"
Jr. "Because you taught me everything I know."
Sr. "That may be--but I didn't teach you eveything that I know!"

All year long, MSU, @PSU, Illini, and of course TSUN have been the biggest games IMO. I'm really not worried about PSU, even after last week. I think we roll over PSU even at night, at state college.

Illini still scare me, but our defensive speed will help tremendously, and hell while i'm chugging the kool-aide, which after last week I'll admit I am, the buckeyes will end up winning their closest game of the year, by a few scores.

TSUN will be a good one. They are playing in, what seems likely, Carrs last OSU game, and the 3 first rounders have nothing else to play for.

MSU.. I was worried about them all year. Still am. MD scares me. But, it's in the shoe, and I don't think you can bring a power running game into Columbus and bulldoze this defense. I can easily see us shutting them down. 2 weeks ago I was very nervous about this game.. but now that i'm drinking the scarlet kool-aide, I think the bucks roll.. 38-10

I have to say, I feel exactly the opposite about the PSU and IL games. I am very worried about the PSU game, being a road game and them finding their running game recently. I do, however have enough faith in our D and in Morelli's suckiness under pressure to think that we will win a close one.
I'm not near as worried about IL or Wisky because they are home games and our D will dominate at home. Il's O still isn't balanced enough to scare me and Wisky's D is slow and terrible.

MSU gave up 48 (?) points to Northwestern - 'nuff said. they will get about 17 points on us but we will get at least 35.

scUM - believe it or not after their first two games - looks like easily the toughest test left, with the other road game (PSU) second. We are going to have to play a turnover-free game to beat scUM up there.

In 2004 it took Ginn going nuts vs a 5-7 MSU team w/o it's starting QB to beat them.

This year's team is light-years ahead of our 2004 team, while your team this year isn't all that much better than your 2004 team...and this game is in The Shoe.

Well, they already have 5 wins, unlike that team which only ended up with 5... And we don't have a complete POS Backup QB starting the game.

I guess we can look at the 2005 game in the shoe then when we were more than holding our own despite blowing our foot off with an RPG on the 'fast field goal'. Then the LT got hurt and the sackfest began... Game over. That loss was a level of pain that I'm not sure if 'newer' OSU fans understand... One of those games where you keep waiting for the guillotine to drop...

The point was that the last 4 games before last year were all games in which MSU lead (by at least 14 points I believe), and now we at least have a non invalid @ Head Coach so hopefully the 'beating ourselves' will be fewer and farther between...

Not flaming... But nothing I said was incorrect about 04'.

I expect a score in the neighborhood of OSU 31 MSU 17 on Saturday.

You were 4-4 when we came into East Lansing...a decent team. True, your team this year is better than your 2004 team, but not near the degree that our team this year is better than our 2004 team. Relying on the argument that we had to rely on a breakout performance by one player for us to win in 2004 has no relevance to this weekend's game. That's my point.

You didn't say it, but your implication that you could compare Ohio State's 2004 team to Ohio State's 2007 team IS incorrect.

Besides, 2004 is over. If anyone on the field is thinking about 2004, he's not doing his job.

I'm saying the games were competitive, and if football were fair at all (it isn't) you'd have dropped either that game or 2005 vs MSU.

I don't think your team is that much better than the 04' team, at least not yet. Not a knock on this years team, just saying that none of Tressel's teams has been bad. They were a damn good team that year with excellent coaching. Weren't they in the top 5 when they faced uOFm, and then just completely ass raped whoever they played in the Alamo Bowl?

Nope it isn't that relevant other than that a few players will play in both games... Caulcrick the RB for MSU is one.
