Teams can have a second without infringing on the sacred religion attached to the first.

Between the hatred between fans, consistently competitive games, big moments and visibility (4 straight trips from College Gameday)... it's a rivalry.

94 - Annihilation by PSU.
95 - A classic; comeback by Hoying to win late.
97 - Enis & PSU rush from behind in Cbus

There's quite a bit of tradition in this decade alone:
00 - Taliferro paralyzed, surgery & bond formed with OSU
01 - Incredible comeback by PSU
02 - Loudest ever in shoe? D scores only TD.
03 - Hartsock bounce catch
05 - The Rail
06 - The Heisman Moment
08 - Frosh mistake by PA's biggest recruit ever leads to PSU win

remind me who the "locked in" games are for scheduling purposes?

Per Wikipedia

Furthermore, the Big Ten football schedule is set up with each team having two permanent rivalries within the conference, with the other eight teams in the conference rotating out of the schedule in pairs for two-year stints. Permanent rivalries are as follows:

  • Illinois: Indiana, Northwestern
  • Indiana: Illinois, Purdue
  • Iowa: Minnesota, Wisconsin
  • Michigan: Michigan State, Ohio State
  • Michigan State: Michigan, Penn State
  • Minnesota: Iowa, Wisconsin
  • Northwestern: Illinois, Purdue
  • Ohio State: Michigan, Penn State
  • Penn State: Michigan State, Ohio State
  • Purdue: Indiana, Northwestern
  • Wisconsin: Iowa, Minnesota

I never realized Northwestern and Purdue were rivlas, huh. To me our second "rival" has always been whoever is good. For awhile there I felt like Wisconsin was our #2 and then Iowa and now Penn State. If PSU becomes terrible again for four years, I'm sure for me and many other OSU fans that don't live in PA the #2 "rival" will be somebody different again.

Don't forget the 1994 63-14 apefucking they gave us there. I'd love to see Tressel ass-ram Paterno like that once before JoePa fucking croaks...

Oh I'll never forget that classless shit. I just try and avoid talking about it because I still get all worked up.

People should look at the way PSU fans act and remember it everytime they think they want scUM to be good again. It may or may not happen but don't ever wish anything good for these rotten bastards.

I have to disagree. I think you should have to play your rival every season. But that's just me.

I never said that we shouldn't play Penn State every year, I agree it makes sense for them to be the team other than Michigan that we play every year. I was just making a statement as to who "feels" like our #2 rival and to me it's always been whoever in the Big Ten is good at the time or a team we've had trouble beating for a few straight years.

Actually I wasn't referring to Penn State. I was referring to Wisconsin and Iowa which I have a hard time seeing as true rivals. But now I see what you were saying, you see them as "temporary" rivals when they are good.
