Game Thread Ohio State @ Iowa, 11/04/17 @ 3:30 (ESPN)

I could be totally wrong here but I don’t expect a let down at all. I think the team looks to fix their mistakes from the Penn State game and show they belong in the conversation of a top program. I see a total ass kicking on tap.

I could absolutely see a bunch of guys who just figured out they have another gear (4th quarter team) and are hungry to keep playing that way.

At least I damn sure hope so

From the games I have seen they run the typical Iowa defense which is rush 4 and drop into zones to keep everything in front of you.

That would have been a problem in the past but it's exactly what Wilson and Day have retooled the offense to beat. Like I said earlier in the thread, if they give JT the same kind of time to find open receivers that McSorely had in the Penn State game then it's hard to imagine how they keep it close.

Iowa is good at KO returns though.....there is that
UFM admitted today we can't kick it through the endzone... that's kind of embarrassing to be honest lol.

Well If we can't kick it through the end zone then IMO you have to put the Majority of your starting defense out there to execute the short kick. UFM mentioned personnel changes being made to the unit and boy do I hope they make about 10 of them because they've been poor all year.

What I don't understand about the kickoff formation is how our kicker tends to continue on the path down the middle of the field. Right now teams are swinging wide and going around our contain so after Sean kicks the ball I'd really like to see him get to about the 35-40 yard line on the right side and to force things back inside. Shoot at this point get Denzel Ward out there and have him be responsible for the backside of coverage. Issue is we have 10 people hemmed in on one side and once they get free there's just nothing there to stop them.

We will know everything we need to know about this game in the first quarter IMO.

Holy crap, they've got a 6'8" DT.
lol I know right? They're long but not really that explosive. Don't be surprised to see us move the pocket quite a bit in this game to avoid the Tree's inside. I don't think they have that much depth either so how will these guys look in the 4th quarter?

I know most of the pub has been on the throwing game but I would love to see us get back to that 260-270 rushing yards range. I think our running game is what has been making our throwing game propel anyways.

What's beautiful though is I'm confident that whatever Iowa tries to take away we will just find a way to move the ball regardless. Want to stack the box with 8? That's fine we will throw it out wide with our quick throwing game. Want to drop 7? Fantastic try stopping Dobbins. Want to play Man? Crossing routes. Want to play Zone? Good luck trying to get pressure on JT who's going to find the open man sitting in a soft spot.

Kevin and Ryan are quick to realize what teams are trying to take away and making them pay for their over aggression in it. Damn, I just wish we could get OU again now that we have it figured out.

Fight the team across the field
Show them Ohio's here,
Set the earth reverberating
With a mighty cheer,
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Hit them hard and see how they fall,

Never let that team get the ball,
Hail, hail, the gang's all here,
So let's win that old conference now.

I’ll be honest...

Iowa is going to get roasted and carved up all day. They don’t have what it takes and it’s going to be a blowout.

Matter of fact, just give the Bucks the Big Ten Championship now, because none of these other teams can hang.

Yeah, I’ve been drinking. That means I speak the truth.

I keep hearing shit about Oklahoma. Let me tell you something, talking heads, that team would get absolutely murdered against this Ohio State team right now. I say put both teams in and let the Bucks beat them by 30.

JT Barrett would plant a flag in their ass. Except it wouldn’t be a flag, it’d be a giant plunger with Mayfield’s face on it.

I kind of I feel the same way. I think the last game was so sloppy that this team knows they can play a lot better than did last game.

I look up front and our DL should once again control them up front. They couldn't keep ped out of the backfield for fucks sake. Iowa doesn't have the skill out wide to push the ball down field to back us out of the box either. Take away their running game (which isn't hard to do) and keep their tight end in check and there's no way they score more then 14-17.

The same ped offense that couldn't break 100 yards rushing against us went for 300 (!!) Yards on the ground on these guys. They constantly got wide on them and they constantly broke off big chunks of yards. Now Iowa is going up against a much better oline, the same RPO game, and a pair of tailbacks that rival Saquon. Iowa got good pressure on Trace but who hasn't? Regardless ped still threw for 250 yards as well.

I'll say it again this week lol...

If we 1) don't turn the ball over 2) have good kick coverage and 3) don't take horrible penalties we win this game going away.

Only way we lose this game is if we do what we did last week but then also somehow pair it with a conservative game plan.

I will add though that I know JT is playing amazing right now but I really can't stress enough that I think we are veering too much towards the pass. Maybe I'm just nervous considering we typically haven't been good passing but personally I'd like to see a little more run game.
