1. Yes, OSU's OOC schedule blows. Much the same as pretty much every other BCS conference team in that regard. Let's face it, the big bucks available to a team (and conference) that makes it to a BCS bowl game dictates that no more difficult games be scheduled than absolutely necessary. It's also necessary to play more home games than away games to maximize the revenue stream. This is no less true for Florida, Oklahoma and LSU than it is for Ohio State, as a quick look at those schools' schedules will reveal.

2. Yep, OSU is regarded as a dubious Number One Team by the pundits. And guess what: we would regard an analogous team from another conference in much the same way. We lost the Heisman Trophy winner and numerous other key players from a team that played egregiously on the big national stage in the final game of last season. Why would such a team be highly regarded by the media? We have much to prove that our early opponents did not allow us to prove.

3. Our schedule is highly back-loaded. I'll admit that I'm greatly concerned about our chances against the Nittany Lions and Michigan in our two remaining away games. These are two terrific opponents, with lots of speed and talent.

Don't get me wrong; we have the best coaching staff in the US, have as much talent as any other team (possible exception being Southern Cal), and have tremendous speed. But I can certainly understand the prevailing attitude about the Buckeyes as being, "Show me."

I'll put my take on this subject... I think we should change.. NOTHING at all.

1. Who gives 2 shits about what the media thinks of our conference, schedule, and most importantly our team. Year in and year out if we win all our games we're in the championship game and they can't do anything about it either. If we win out this year, guess what? We're playing for it all in Baton Rouge (I mean New Orleans).

2. Yes the big ten is somewhat down right now, but if you add a lot of good teams to the schedule to make up for it you could be setting yourself up for failure.

3. Which brings me to my next point and biggest point of all. Lets say Iowa, PSU, and Michigan are all very good in one year with all teams being top 20 caliber. Lets further dramtise this and say we have to play AT Iowa/Michigan in the same year. Do you really want to play USC in the beginning then a team like Maryland/GaTech in the middle of your schedule? We schedule the way we do because we anticipate that teams are going to be solid in the big ten. Can we be blamed that Wisconsin is over rated, PSU is spotty, Michigan started slow, Illionois is young, and that Purdue/MSU aren't at our level yet? These things can't be controlled, and one year I promise you the stars will align so to speak and all these teams will be able to give us a good game.

4. So lets say in one year we go USC, MSU, @Iowa, @Michigan, @ Georgia Tech, Illonois, and Penn State. Thats an awful tough schedule, and while I believe OSU is a top 1-3 program across the nation I think having to get up week after week after week for a big game is too much to ask of 18-26 year olds (thanks Pretorious for making my age groupings extreme). Sure We're OSU and we should fear NO ONE etc.. but the best way to go is what we've been doing. One extremely tough game a year OOC, 3 gimmies, and the rest of our big ten.

5. I mean could you imagine losing a game early in the OOC then having to go through the rest of the schedule?? What if we had to play Va Tech in 05 after we lost to texas and PSU already? If we lose that game we go from the Fiesta Bowl to the capital one bowl, and for as talented as a team we had in 05' that would be a shame for the team and most importantly those seniors. Lets not forget that other teams aren't going to follow our lead and schedule these tough games... If we schedule good/great teams week in and week out and lose (regardless if our team is the most talented) we won't get in a BCS bowl when we go 10-2 or 9-3 when a team like Va Tech or Auburn go 11-1/12-1. You get zero points in the BCS for loses.

So I think what we're doing is perfect. Play the big school (washington was scheduled when they were good, and they fucked that up not us), then play some games at Ohio Stadium that get us wins/money. The big ten will get better, and when they do the last thing you want is a murder row of a schedule.

GO BUCKS... Dammit I hate Cats... Beat the nits'!!

Okay, here is my take: As far as gimme games go, we have scheduled a MAC team every year.

Cincinnati should be scheduled every year. They are a Big East team...

Uh, Stephen Hawkings, the reason why we have a MAC team scheduled every year is that we're mandated to play at least one Ohio team each year and there are six Ohio teams in the MAC...with Cincinnati being the only other I-A team in the state, it makes sense that it would seem like we've got a MAC team on the plate every year. Yet, you want to schedule Cincinnati every frickin' year just because they're not in the MAC...

First of all it's Stephen Hawking, not "Hawkings", get it right.

Second, I was unaware it was "mandated" we play an Ohio school every year?

Any links?

First of all, whatever on "Genius Timmy in the wheelchair"...I wonder what "Sttteeeepphennn!" would sound like in a MacIntosh voice. :roll1:

Second, if you spent more time on the football boards instead of starting 1,365 worthless "What is your favorite type of anal lube?" threads in the Open Discussion forum, you'd know that Ohio State has been mandated by state legislature to play an Ohio team each season for years now.

Sorry, not everything in life has a link to it...

Actually, I thought it was the case that the State Legislature was trying to apply pressure to promote inclusion of Ohio teams on the Buckeyes schedule, not that they has actually passed any mandate demanding or requiring the same.

In either eventuality though, pressure or mandate, that is something which isn't within the purview of the Ohio Legislature, nor should it ever be.

I would still say the Washington win was a good one...despite their record...their schedule has been brutal.. the teams they've played have a combined record of 40-11 with more than half those loses coming from Syracuse. Take out Syracuse and their opponents combined record goes to 38-5!!! Difficult for anyteam to do extremely well with that. The rest of the scheduled teams have a record of 23-20 so they should start getting some more wins, but still have Cal and Hawaii to deal with. Certainly they aren't elite, but they arent as bad as their record would indicate.

It's high time that those of you who care realize that we are screwed in the court of public opinion anyway.

If the Big 10 goes 7-0 in Bowls this year, it will be ignored or called an aberration.

In 2002, when OSU won the NC, the Big 10 went 5-2 in bowls. That was the best record for any conference that year. It was mentioned once on ESPN, in passing, at the very end of a Sportscenter as an "oh by the way".

When we went 2-5 last year, it got wall-to-wall coverage; and people are still talking about it. They just fail to mention that the 2 wins were against the SEC.

It's this simple really (and I'm just repeating a point Jax has made):
If they can't get over the War of Northern Agression (Civil War to those of you who actually know history), what in the name of Robert E. Lee do you think is going to make them stop bad-mouthing northern football?

That's right, nothing.
You know the beautiful part though? With the way JT has the Buckeye Juggernaut rolling, it seems like it is only a matter of time before we face an SEC team for the National Title and win. At some point, it will happen.

It won't stop them talking, but you won't care at that point... will you?

Grant, Sherman, both from Ohio. that's all you need to know.

I asked for a link b/c there isn't one nimwit.

But hey, I shouldn't expect a guy 6000 miles away to know about Ohio government.

It's been asked but not "mandated."

Maybe if you spent more time in the political forum, you wouldn't throw out words that you have no idea of their meaning.
