Ohio State vs. Marshall (2004)

Stan Hill will drop back to pass on 3rd down and Mike D'Andrea from the Rush end position will come un-touched and get a kill shot with Stan looking the complete opposite way!
Agreed, but I think it will be MDA untouched up the middle. Wham, right in the chest with the helmet under the chin. Good night, Mr. Hill. Next.

I'd like to see Hill hang in there and take his beating, but I am pretty sure our guys hit a little harder than the junior Trojans.

Going back to the poster who commented about no sacks against Cincy -- one of the reasons you roll your QB out the way UC did is because you can't protect him in the pocket. Rolling out gets him away from the rush, but limits his options, and not every QB has enough mobility to do it successfully. Even then, Guidugli was throwing under pressure all day. That's indicative of a consistently strong pass rush. With the OL problems Marshall had in game 1, and given that Hill is not particularly mobile, it's a pretty safe bet that he is going to have a target on his back all day.

The best bet for hard hitting sacks are going to be blitzing linebackers from the middle (MDA or Schlegal), or the end from his front side. From what I've read, they've put their only two experienced linemen on his blind side. Given his speed, the momentum a blitzing LB carries, and the likelyhood that he will be in on passing downs, I'll go with RugbyBuck's pick and take MDA.

A Marshall fan will throw a moon shine jug and miss and hit Stan Hill on the sidelines and knock him out.. Mark it down!!!!!!!
If the game were at Marshall I would believe you, but the security at the Shoe will keep all the shine outside. One time when I played against Marshall somebody in the stands threw an empty bottle of Jack at us when we were walking up to the locker room. We learned to never take off our helmets in Huntington.

Good post Brutus Bobcat. Every step a roll-out QB takes reduces the size of the field he can throw to. Unless you're Favre or Bradshaw, the throw across your body to the opposite field is nearly guaranteed doom.

So if that's the Marshall game plan, it's real good news for EJ Underwood and Dustin Fox.

Assuming he stays in the pocket, I'd like to see Hill get crushed by D'Animal -- or Nate Salley on a safety blitz. Lights out, sweet dreams, see you in the morning!

where did he get the hands of a bear? did he kill one of those too?!
As Marco from Sealab 2021 would say, "He has the energy of a bear who has the energy of two bears!"
...Or maybe he got some bearclaws from Buckeye Donuts.

Regardless, whoever knocks out Stan Hill is the person I nominate to knock out Tibor.

not to rain on everyone's parade here, but we couldn't get a sack against Cincy..

Check the difference in Guidugli's performances:

2004: 17-36-0, 162 yards, 0 TD, 0 sacks, 2 completions of 20+ yards.
2002: 26-52-2, 324 yards, 1 TD, 2 sacks, 4(+) completions of 20+ yards (including 36- and 35-yard completions)

The reason I have "4(+) completions" above is that the page I got the data from showed four different UC WRs with a catch of 20+ yards as their longest reception. Obviously, one or more of them could have had additional 20+ yard catches.

While we neither sacked nor intercepted GhoulDoofy this past weekend, we harassed his ass so much that he was far less effective than he was against us two years ago. He had exactly half the passing yardage of the 2002 game, half (or less) the number of 20+ yard completions, and most importantly zero TD passes. We sacked him twice in 2002 yet we would have lost had UC receivers had stickier fingers. This year, UC was out of it after we went up 17-6 before the fourth quarter even started. Sacks don't always mean that much.

I just wonder what Jim Tressel is thinking right about now. Just one day from playing the team that he coached against back in the 90's and how much has changed for him. And I'll bet not much has changed in his mind since then. Sure he has stepped up from one level of caliber football team to another but he has a good Idea of what Marshall football is all about. Even though they have stepped one level of thier program he will still have respect for them. I know he is looking forward to this game with special memories and interest.
