Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Now I have seen Hayes wrestle at Ironman and this is a HUGE HUGE HUGE pickup. Kid is lightning off his feet and has really funky attacks/stance that makes it tough to wrestle him on his feet. Really good off bottom and will need some work off top but is more than adequate there. Funny how I said we need a stud 141/149 for the future and bang, we get Hayes. Honestly, I think #11 overall is a little low for the kid, he is dynamic. He is ranked #3 overall on Intermat and that is about right.

Can't wait to see how he matches up with Kolodzik at Who's #1? Kolodzik is Blair's top guy this year...he and his brother worked out in the Jordan facilities at Graham their whole lives while they were the only wrestles at a small private school in Ohio near Dayton, only to transfer to Blair Academy (our rival). I understand they wanted the best education (dad is a doctor, kids are geniuses) and Graham is not exactly a stellar education, but it feels like betrayal when you train those kids from the time they can walk basically to the time they hit high school and then they transfer to your rival. If they would've choose Graham, we would have a couple more national titles. In any event, I will be rooting for Hayes.

Speculation on Kolodzik? PSU, Cornell maybe Stanford?

Got a great chance to meet up with some of the Graham folks and got some great info. Bo is really pushing it at 165 with his frame and he will wrestle there this year, but look for a push up to 174 in the next year or so, possibly 184 by the time he is through. Huge kid. Mic I am not entirely sure on, sounds like he could comfortably wrestle at 149 this year but there is some guy named Hunter Stieber there who is kinda good and his brother Logan is right beneath that...he will wrestle up at 157 but Demas/Languis are tough wrestle offs. Personally I think if he wins that wrestle off, we will be much better off as a whole...Demas is a borderline AA at best as a redshirt senior, although he can go off and be incredibly good out of nowhere...just have to hope that happens in February. Either way, I want to see Mic and Bo wrestle back-to-back on our lineup...dream come true for me anyways.

As for Marinelli, it's looking like he might level out at 160 in HS and will be in the 157/165 range coming in (barring a growth spurt). I'm going to workout with him in late November (looking forward to it but not necessarily looking forward to the body aches after) but from all reports he crushed it in the weight room and will be the kid to beat at 160 this year nationally. Plus he is a diehard Ohio State fan and has always dreamed of coming here, so even better. In a couple years, I think there will be a stretch of Mic, Bo, and Marinelli, just not sure in what order...I can't wait  Oh and that pipeline is far from over...the freshman class is going to be ELITE at Graham this year and I am not just talking Rocky Jordan. There are 4-5 kids that Tom Ryan will be monitoring closely, two of which are going to be tops in the country right away.

Then you look at the last couple weeks in recruiting...a stretch of Hayes, Mic J., Marinelli, Bo J., and Martin...that is studly. Then Tomasello, Snyder, and Haines scattered in? This year might be our year to get our first title and you better believe I am going to enjoy it (I'm almost more excited about it than I was before football, which is saying something), but this is the pinnacle of Buckeye wrestling history thus far coming up. My dad has been fretting about Logan leaving and yeah, that will suck since he has easily been the most prolific wrestler we've had here. But as good as this team will be next year, our best years might be to come from top-to-bottom past the 2014-15 season.

I also failed to mention sophomore-to-be Kyle Lawson for Graham at 145 this year, who blew through state as a freshman at 138 and could very well be a 4x champ...AWP has him ranked #6 overall in the class of 2017 and Flo rates him at #7 at 145. He was dinged up to begin the year last year but once he got healthy, he was on fire. This will be another kid that OSU will be after if he wrestles to his potential.

Wrestle offs were tonight and I had a friend in there watching...I got the results on most of the matches:

125: Tomasello by tech fall
133: Did not get the results here but I am sure DiJulius won it
141: Logan by pin
149: No official word but of course it is Hunter's spot
157: Biggest shocker of all...Languis takes down Mic Jordan 3-2. Demas did not wrestle, apparently a knee injury (not positive but nothing too serious). This is a weight that could flip back and forth though as Mic adjusts to the weight and gets college experience.
165: Bo wins by pin
174: Not sure but I would guess Martin won
184: Courts wins handily over Fox 11-3
197: Snyder wins (didn't get the score but I am guessing a bloodbath)
Hvy: The other shocker...Tavanello took down Haines 5-2. Not surprised Tavanello won but how easily he won...controlled the match.

- I'll try to get the rest but they will probably be released before I get ahold of my friend.

Kolodzik was pretty dominant in the PFP match over Hayes. Didn't really expect that.

...Plus he is a diehard Ohio State fan and has always dreamed of coming here, so even better....

Unfortunately that didn't keep him in the fold.

http://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sp...er-ohio-state-commit-alex-marinelli/17645353/

Alex Marinelli made a decision three months ago that made those around him happy.

He made a choice Monday that made himself happier.

The two-time Ohio state high school wrestling champion, regarded as one of the nation's top juniors, backed out of his commitment to Ohio State and announced his intention to join the Hawkeyes in 2016.

Below is the link to all the wrestle-off results. Apparently Hunter did not wrestle at 149, as Jake Ryan (Coach Ryan's son) was the winner there...I'll try to find out more, likely an injury/weight issue. If it is weight, I would not mind seeing him at 157 at all. Apparently there was no wrestle-off at 133 or the site didn't list it...which would be odd considering how many 133's we have on the roster. And Martin won by major decision over Prezzia 12-4.

seemed to be some surprises, but all four captains claimed their weight classes. Speaks very highly for the depth of tOSU wrestlers. Probably several will wrestle in various weight classes, and it always helps if the '2s' can step in and win some points when they are called upon. Better back-ups mean better practices, and forces everyone to get better. Won't be surprised to see some of the 'wrestle-offs' to pass from hand to hand in some of the lower weight classes. Was surprised that the HWT class went to a newbie. More technical ability vs more athleticism? RB, would you please expound on that for me? Go Bucks

Tavanello won the wrestle off at heavy and he was our starter last year. Haines (the true frosh) will likely push him all season though...personally, if Mic Jordan cracks the lineup at 157 and Haines at heavy, I think the team would be at it's best. But of course that means they have to earn it on the mat, nothing is given to you in wrestling.

As to lower weights, they are pretty set. Nobody is beating out Tomasello, DiJulius, or the Stiebers from 125-149. Only competition (assuming we are healthy) is Jordan/Languis/Demas at 157 and Haines/Tavanello at heavy.
