Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I know it is the beginning of football season but this is quite an accomplishment by a Ohio State wrestling recruit:)

CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Nathan Tomasello put himself on some fairly exclusive lists during his just-completed high school career at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.

Last week, he joined one of the most exclusive groups in Ohio. Tomasello, 19, won his third junior freestyle wrestling national championship at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior (ages 16-18) and Cadet (15-16) Nationals in Fargo, N.D.

The one other Ohioan to win at least Junior three titles is Alan Fried, a 1989 St. Edward graduate. Fried won four such titles, something no other U.S. wrestler has done.

Tomasello and Fried. That's exclusive company. Fried is considered by some the greatest high school wrestler Ohio has produced.

Speaking of St. Edward, the Eagles' Markus Scheidel also won a Junior title at Fargo at 160 pounds, becoming the Eagles' sixth Junior champion. He came from behind with a takedown in the closing seconds to beat Davonte Mahomes of Illinois, 7-6, in the 160-pound final. Mahomes was bidding to win a Junior ?Triple Crown? after winning Greco-Roman and folkstlyle titles.

Really good stuff, thanks for the links. However, I hope Ryan's verbatim response wasn't in the first link...otherwise, he committed a violation on Snyder unfortunately. Nothing major, just surprised to see that (and hopefully it gets rectified soon).

On a side note, shocked to see word of those redshirts. I thought Bo was physically and mentally prepared to go, but wrestling is a different animal I suppose. Either way, it must be for Bo because honestly he is our best option at 165. And Hunter Stieber...I admit to be out of tune with wrestling lately but that has to be injury related. Bizarre though, even Coach Ryan seems pessimistic about next year. I certainly like Roberts at 125 as an improvement and DiJulius is big at 133, but I thought Bo was an obvious plug at 157/165 next year.

Just for college wrestlers and wrestling programs, it's good that Wrestling won its vote to stay in the Olympics thru at least 2024.

It was ridiculous for the Olympics to even try to eliminate the sport.

Coach Ryan and OSU got a commitment from Ryan Harris (Beachwood) this evening...Harris is ranked #96 in the class of 2014...that gives OSU four top 100 commits in the class of 2014! Harris is a 3x state qualifier and won state last year as a junior going 50-0! Harris joins Kyle Snyder, Micah Jordan and Thomas Haines in the 2014 class! What a great haul by Coach Ryan...the best is yet to come for OSU wrestling...GO BUCKS!!!
