OL Coach Greg Studrawa (Official Thread)

Two most obvious replacement candidates would be Justin Frye and Eric Wolford.

Frye - UCLA OC/OL coach; young (only 38), Midwest native (played at IU) with close ties to Day (served on both Temple and BC staffs with Day)

Wolford - Kentucky OL coach; strong Ohio ties (Youngstown native; served as HC at YSU for five seasons) with SEC experience and ties to Day (served on Chip Kelly's 49ers staff together)

Based on insider scuttlebutt, my guess is that Frye is the guy. Chip Kelly's buyout reduces to $0 after January 18th. It may be as simple as waiting until then for Frye to become available.
How was Frye at recruiting and developing talent?

If he's only 38 and has the resources of tOSU, I would think he could/should (and Day may make this a requirement) round into a better than decent recruiter. I remember a recruiting come to Jesus-type situation between Day and Alford not too long ago.

I’ll preface this question by saying, I have absolutely no qualms is Frye is actually the choice.

But, for as much shit as OSU fans gave Stud for his recruiting…should OSU fans want someone that “could/should” turn into a good recruiter? That’s kind of like hoping a 3 star recruit becomes the next All-American OT.

Edit: Wow Eleven Warriors saying he was straight up fired. Thought it was more of a mutual parting of ways.

He should have been.

The OT recruiting situation isn't good enough. Hasn't been for a while.

No matter who comes in, the 22 and 23 seasons are going to affected by lack of depth & talent at that position.

Thankfully we’re in the portal area where the Bucks can find some quicker plug-and-play options. That is if coaches, recruiting/scouting/analysts/player personnel roles are doing their job.

No reason OSU shouldn’t be bolstering those positions.

Stud was decent in my mind but I’m looking forward to fresh blood on the OLine.

This comment is a joke, last time I checked Paris Johnson, Harry Miller, Donavon Jackson, and Matthew Jones are all 5 star guys and are still on the roster. Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler have exceeded expectations at least in my opinion. I would agree after that a lot of developmental guys were brought in. Stud missed on multiple top tier guys who appeared to favor the Buckeyes just to go another route at the end of the day. To say the cupboard is bare is not accurate though. If we can grab an OL coach that knows how to coach these guys to fire off the ball and grab a few better recruits its a home run.

As someone mentioned in the recruiting thread, it will have to be a guy, or guys, that aren't in the portal yet. We're going to have to tamper/recruit currently enrolled and committed guys. There is no one currently in the portal that looks like they are even close to being OSU caliber.

Probably why I keep using the term offensive tackle.

Miller, Jackson, Jones, Wypler are not tackles. Go look at the roster and tell me how many Tackles you see after Dewand Jones and Paris Johnson.

Reading comprehension is not a joke.

I take and don't necessarily disagree with your point. However, and this is definitely a paraphrase, Hartline has said that being at tOSU allows you to recruit on a different level. Certainly, not everyone can be Hart just like not everyone is an ace business development/networking guy, but being with the right organization helps you be better than you might otherwise be, if you let it work for you. If you're 60+ and have been coaching your whole adult life, maybe that doesn't make a difference, but if you're relatively young with an upward trajectory leading to tOSU, I'd think it's reasonable to expect that you'll be better here than you have been elsewhere.
