OL Derek Morris (transfer to NC State)

Welcome to BP.

Although you may believe otherwise, Derek is an insignificant figure around here. I doubt many people here even feel like taking the time or energy to debate this issue. Hence, nobody is "hating" on him.

However, as bold and confident as you seem with your advice...and with the assumption that you are an acquaintance of Derek...perhaps you would be better served taking that sage wisdom to Derek personally instead of some internet forum full of obviously clueless peons.

Perhaps that career would have turned out better, perhaps the perception of his character would be a bit lighter, and possibly...just maybe...he would be more of a sympathetic character in fans' eyes instead of carrying the burden of the obviously false accusations that seem to be somehow breeding not only in Columbus but in Raleigh, North Carolina as well.

Take about some idiot fans...

Sheesh.

Sometimes a poster provides us all with a condensed version of the internet version of the Rake's Progress - as illustrated in sequential posts.
But sammy I will give it up for you, you are a quick worker. You have gone through five of the seven defining stages in the space of two posts. Hell, your economy is so complete you can even manage two stages in the same sentence.
Stage one set yourself up as the paragon of virtue - make a stand on behalf of the downtrodden.

Stage two - back up your rigorous stance with unsubstantiated claims about well documented stories. Accuse those down on your fallen hero of lying.

Re-state your Stage one stance with a pithy rejoinder to remind the prevailing thread opinion writers that they are all sniveling unworthy wretches. Must admit a reference to Bible always goes over well here sammy - just a style pointer for your next foray.

Off course no windmill tilting is worth the effort if you cannot back it up when challenged - thus my profound disappointment that you neglected at least two stages in the poster's progress when LJB pointed out that all the "lies" were in fact well documented.

Still -economy is your call sign and straight on to Stage Four goes sammy - the 'who me, I'm not starting something," stance

Which seeming accommodation is never complete without trying to slide your argument in sideways - this time by invoking every poster's favorite strawman enemy - the darned media!

but if you get all your info from the media and believe everything you hear then somethings wrong.

So, girding up your loins it is time to boldly go to Stage Five - the attribution to others of intent that they actually do not have.

its not fair for people to hurt his image up on here. its one thing if you dont like someone b/c they didnt compete for your school, its another to bash people like his dad and call him "fat" when hes a very good OT.
I cannot wait for Stage Six - the feigned agreement "I agree an overweight OT who gets cut because he cannot pass his physical is A) Fat and B) not a good player.

Shortly to be followed by the Seventh and final Stage when you claim that all you had in mind was to help defend the poor slob, and frankly there is nothing more to add to this thread were everyone is mean to poor Derek, so you are declaring it over and done with.

I don't know Derek personally, I've never talked to him, and I all I know is what I've gathered from reading newspapers and internet "chatter," so I won't "hate" on him. However, this part in bold, is where you and I will have to strongly disagree. At NCSU, he was AT BEST an average offensive tackle. Maybe, it was just me, but he seemed very soft. After talking crap about tOSU and calling that game in '04 his "super bowl" (I believe that was the correct quote...to lazy to look up what it was exactly), Derek didn't show up at all and our front seven abused their OL all game. Again, I won't comment on Derek's character, but as a football player...color me unimpressed.

Don't forget Knoxville - it really says something when Tennessee won't recruit a kid due to alleged "character" issues (and yes, the Vols were Derek's first choice until they dropped him like a hot potato).

As far as Derek's being a "very good OT", that allegation is hardly worthy of a rebuttal.

This appears to be the first comment regarding body weight in this thread. If you think it's not right for Derek to be talked about like that, perhaps you shouldn't introduce the topic into the thread.
