OL J.B. Shugarts (official thread)

Good points...OL is probably the toughest position to project. Alex Boone was supposed to be the second coming, and while he played as a true freshman, he did not walk in and dominate like many projected...and he was as highly rated a prospect as OSU has landed this decade.

Plus it seems a lot of OL recruiting is about upside. I know this is the case somewhat with all prospects, but a ton of OL recruiting seems to put much more emphasis on the frame, wingspan, etc. While this does make an OL much more intriguing, it doesn't necessarily make them a sure bet. But in regards to J.B., I think to maybe be in the rotation freshman year would be realistic.

By Newberg...seems headed OOS favorites are OU, OSU, Michigan, Florida. Still looking at LSU but they weren't in his top tier.

definitely too early.

Personally, I'd be surprised if we get 2 or more of these guys.

hope I'm wrong

I think we have two of the original 4 already in the bag (so to speak)... I think a 3rd is very, very close... The 4th one, and one that this thread is about, could go either way (here or elsewhere)...
But we are seeing ourselves get into great shape with kids like Jenkins and Sanders as well... So, we may not get all 4 of the original "Block O" (I'd definitely bet on 3 at this point in time), it looks like we will get 4-5 HIGH quality O-Lineman in this class, rest assured...

last year at this point we were in fantastic shape with Boren, Smith and the kid that went to VT. all 3 were supposedly huge leans...and in state

and we ended up with 1

Not saying we won't get 3 or more...but the recruiting process is just beginning.

and i'm getting overly pessimistic of these early "locks" in my old age...

You mean two years ago?

Shaker, I understand your hesitancy on this, but I think it's unfounded and that the situation is completely different.

Two years ago, we all knew that Boren would be a tough pull with his family's Michigan ties. Also, it has been pretty well documented that Brown not ending up here was a mutual decision and the Bucks somewhat lost interest.

On the other hand, Adams and Brewster really are about as close to locks as it can get, not counting the Glenville guys. There have been so many reports that they are out there recruiting for us that I would be pretty shocked if either don't end up here.

As far as the other two, Long seems like a better than 50% shot. Shugarts, who knows? I'd say we have as good of a chance as the other 4 on his list though.

I hear Shugarts may be changing his tune.. but dont count him out or get discouraged.. Jenkins could very well take his place... I hear he has struck up a friendship with Brewster.. Also Long almost was scared off by the NC game but he is good friends with Brewster probably moreso than he is with Mike Adams.. So things are being swayed back our way slowly but surely.. Also we got his dad's endorsement..

Article is entitled "LSU expecting surprise visitors this weekend"...if they are surprise visitors, then why is there an article about them a week before the visit? I digress...

From the LSU site...more on Shugarts and McGuffie's friendship. J.B. favors Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan and LSU.
