OL Tommy Brown (transfer to Akron)

Love, love, love this commitment. I have felt Brown has the most potential of any lineman in the state, barring maybe Bennett. I like the versatility of this years BIG's...Brown or Underwood could both play DT as well. So glad to have you aboard big man! :osu:

Thats what I like to see. One down at a time.

In the straight 6, it asks something like "How would you like people to remember Curt Evans?"

Who is Curt Evans?

That would be the most recent recruit to face daunting task of answering the "Straight 6". Just a slight C&P mishap. :p

Thanksgiving on Easter?
Smith | 4.07.10

"I've been praying for this for so long. You know I had to go to church today to say thank you," was what Akron Firestone (OH) offensive line recruit Tommy Brown told me on Easter Sunday when I asked him how he celebrated his commitment to Ohio State. "I mean, it was always the Buckeyes. Since I was a little kid, I didn't really follow anyone else. I've been talking to them since I was a sophomore. I call Coach Bollman every week and we've built a great relationship. It's been really cool getting to talk to him every week. It's all just been a blessing."

When asked to describe the scene on his visit when the offer was extended, he said, "I don't even know how to put it. I mean, it was almost overwhelming. My mom was crying, I wanted to scream I was so excited. I was down there with Doran Grant and he was all excited for me. I mean, Ohio State is a really big deal."

Asked to expand on his feelings about the school, Brown replied, "I just fell in love with it. I mean, I'm looking for tradition mostly. That's why I was so interested in Ohio State for so long. When I went down there for the very first time, it was right after my freshman year. It was just crazy. I was like a little kid in a candy store. I mean they have so much history, so much tradition. And it's everywhere, you know? It's not just for the players either but for like people in the community, the parents, the fans, everybody."

Wow. Impressive kid. Love hearing his thoughts.

Also, love the background info that you get about him first visiting as a freshman, being in contact with the staff since his sophomore year. It runs counter to the idea that "this came out of the blue" or "under the radar recruit". With his size and attributes, it's clear that he's been on tOSU radar for some time now.

Buckeyes the choice for Firestone tackle
Junior excited to play for Ohio State because of coaching staff, record

Firestone High School junior Tommy Brown visited the Ohio State campus this past Saturday.

It is a visit that Brown will remember for the rest of his life, because he made an oral commitment to continue his football and academic careers at OSU on scholarship.

''I can't wait,'' Brown said. ''It was crazy. It was an unbelievable experience. I just can't wait.''

Brown, a 6-foot-5 and 310-pound offensive tackle, will trade his Falcons green and gold for the Buckeyes' scarlet and gray.

Brown said that he was attracted to OSU because of the ''tradition, coaching staff, winning record and that is a team I grew up loving.''

Firestone football coach Tim Flossie said Brown recently bench pressed 225 pounds, 22 times.

''Tommy is just a big, athletic and strong kid,'' Flossie said. ''He has the numbers as far as height, weight and strength that the Big Ten looks for, and he is a hard-working kid.''

Tommy Brown: back in town
Smith | 4/29/10

Massive Akron Firestone (OH) offensive tackle Tommy Brown comes in at a healthy 6'5, 320 lbs. It takes a lot to make a man that size feel small. However, that?s just one of the thoughts he experienced while attending the Ohio State spring game last weekend. It was his first time returning to campus as a committed recruit and the enormity of Buckeye nation was really starting to register.
