Olympic Hockey Gold Medal

Great goal? It was a weak flip to the AHL side. If not for the USA/Finland game, it would have been the weakest goal of the Olympics. All Miller had to do was hug the post, like they teach in pee-wee league. It's not like he didn't know where the shot was coming from. Just bad/lazy positioning. Miller knew he blew it. Too bad, a disappointing end to a great run by Miller and the US team.

How could anyone consider that a great goal? Oh yeah, you're a Sabres fan.

Welcome brother

I'm shocked by 1 thing in this thread.

Rafalski turned the puck over on one of Canada's early goals, and then he allowed Crosby to head to the net in OT to score the game-winner.

And BM80 hasn't mentioned his name today? Amazing what 4 goals and 4 assists will do. :tongue2:

In Rafalski's defense (at least in OT), he was anticipating checking Crosby into the boards, and then the puck hit the official's skate, allowing Crosby to poke it toward Iginla and head for the net. A bit of a bad break, but Rafalski can't allow Sid inside him like that, and as mentioned, Miller needed to cover the post.

And BK/fungo, yes, I did DVR the Sparty-Purdue game. :wink2:

Actually I'm more worried about the tons of ice time he played today especially since tomorrow he'll be playing in the first of what will most certainly be a very grueling 20 game stretch here to (hopefully) get the Wings into the playoffs.

That and he's made that mistake quite a few times this year and last year.

sabres are the worst team too, rochester americans should take over for them

Too bad the Sabres don't have a true franchise player, a real superstar who can carry the team on his back with his all-world skill set...

...you know, like Mike Peca. :slappy:

Jesus, you're setting these up like you're pitching to Cal Ripken, Jr. in an All Star Game.

But seriously (and directed to posters who actually know something about hockey), this Olympics has to be the biggest boon for hockey in the US since the NHL/ESPN contract of the early 90's. If the NBC execs had a clue, it could have been even better. Hope this translates into more and better NHL coverage in the future. Too bad it will all be centered around Crosby. Ugh.

Eh, wasn't really Brian's fault. Erik Johnson really hung him out to dry by passing through the middle.

Well, at least they will have one winner in Nash when he gets back to Columbus. The way he played in OT I thought he was going to make the game winner.

I thought Nash was one of the better Canadians all tournament. I'd probably give Toews MVP for them, with Nash second. Maybe Doughty second.. but probably still Nash. He wasn't on the score sheet as much as Canada fans hoped, but he was playing better than I've ever seen him play before.

Good to know that he'll be in Columbus for many years. So glad he didn't pull a Kovalchuk.

Zach Parise for USA is a beast. He was the best player on the ice in the gold medal game. He and Ryan Suter really impressed me for USA.

I DVR'd the game, so I was a couple hours behind...

What a great fuckin game. Things coulda woulda shoulda broke this way or that... with all the rebounds Luogno was giving up, I would have liked to see more rushing the net... but.. not to be, I guess.

In any case, there are worse game to lose, and worse countries to lose to. In as much as Canada hosted the Olympics, and Hockey is their game

Hats on the ice to you, Canda.

All game winning game 7 playoff goals or game winning Olympic gold medal goals are great goals. Only possible exception I can think of is Steve Smith knocking one in his own net.
