Had some time to kill and I've been thinking about this one for a while.
1970's
record: 91-20-3
win pct: 81.1 %
total score: 3,405-1,317
avg score: 30-12
AP top 5 finishes: 5
Played on the field in the Bowl game for a NC '70, '75, '79
record: 0-3
Plus the 1973 team was arguably the finest OSU team ever assembled. They went 10-0-1 but did not win the NC.
2000's (through 2007)
record: 81-20
win pct: 80.2%
total score: 2,915-1,612
avg score: 29-16
AP top 5 finishes: 5
Played on the field in the Bowl game for a NC in '02, '06, '07
record: 1-2
There are 26 games left to be played this decade. If JT continues to win at his 82% clip that would be a record of 11-2 each of the next two years making the final decade talley 103-24. That would EXACTLY match the 70's decade win pct at 81.1 %.
For sake of argument, say they go 13-0 in '08 and wrap up the second NC of the decade in four attempts. That means they could have 4 losses in '09 and still match the 70's win %. Anything better than that sets a new record.
Even if they don't bring home a NC again this decade when its all said and done the arguments could be made depending on how these last two years turn out. They would have to be shockingly bad to keep the debate from being made.
If there was ever any doubt, this is just another reminder that these are great times to be a Buckeye. When its all said and done these could quite possibly have been the very best times.
