...although there werent really any hardcore fans that I met in 4 years, maybe with Frank down there its changed.
Ya I think I may have mis-labeled the OU hardcore fans... because they're still really aren't any, its more or less the ones that hate buckeye fans because they think they are the team of Ohio. It's funny because they want to whine and complain all the time for all the buckeye fans down here in Athens, yet they don't go support the bobcats anyways. It's sad too because I see plenty of BG, KSU, and Miami(OH) shirts and sweatshirts around campus as well, but none of the OU purists complain about them... it's just buckeyes that bother them.

Real lame.

I will say that when I played for tOSU Club Hockey team the o WOOOOOO fans were freeken nuts. I used to love to play there becasue they would do some totaly out of hand shit. They were also a very good team becasue they were trying to make it a varsity sport and had a bunch of Canadians that were all varsity caliber. Tough games.

I got into so many fight one night I though that I was worried about my girlfriends saftey in the stands. Broke my stick right over some dudes back.

They used to have chicken wire around the boards instead of glass. It felt like the Blue Brothers playing in that country bar. Still to this day I remember girls coming outof the stands to spit on us when you were pinned against the boards. I appreciate that type of dedication.

well, rutgers handled OU this weekend, back to earth.

Folanator, that chicken wire was back around the 70s, early 80s. So I have been told. BTW, I never saw OU lose to OSU in club hockey. Pretty much blowouts every time.

Like I predicted, Ohio Univ got handled by Rutgers. tOSU playing Ohio Univ. is about as bad as playing Youngstown St. I would love to see Frank turn that program around but I don't think its going to happen. There just isn't the dedication down there to start up a legit football program. BTW, there is a reason its called the "BUCKEYE" state!!

Go Bucks!!

I'll be happy if he gets them to play .500 ball every year. A lot can happen between now and the '08 game but it will most likely be a walk through for the Bucks. I do agree, there is zero dedication from the students, not enough outside support for the program week in, week out.

One good win, and it seems as if some of our people have gotten a little bit too excited. Solich has notched up a couple of important wins, combining the NIU win with Pitt last year, but it's a long road ahead just to even get to the level where Toledo-BG-Miami are. Akron has gone through a remarkable turnaround from where they were a decade or so ago, and I'd be thrilled to see Solich lead them down a similar path.

Comparisons to Ohio State are ludicrous. That's the 15,000 foot mountain in the distance, when what you're trying to do is climb the hill in front of you. The OU fans on that site need to focus on what is attainable, namely:

- Making Athens a more rabid atmosphere for MAC opponents.
- Winning the recruiting wars amongst Ohio schools not named "The Ohio State University"
- Scoring more big wins over top-tier MAC schools like NIU
- Competing regularly for the MAC East title
- Knocking off at least one weaker BCS conference school per year
- Getting one of the MAC's three bowl bids
- Winning a bowl
- Consistently be the "best of the rest" in Ohio
- Someday beat a team ranked in the Top 25
- Putting a marquee player in the NFL

The last one is a big deal. Looking around at the rest of the MAC, even lowly Kent State has put Josh Cribbs in the league. Akron has Charlie Frye, Miami has Ben Rothlisberger. Former MAC member Marshall has Moss and Pennington. Having guys starting on Sunday gets the attention of fans and prospects.

Do all of those good things for 50 years, and then MAYBE you can start worrying about Ohio State. Until then, just be happy with a gorgeous campus, hot ladies, cheap beer, and a football stadium that you can get into for FREE.

Seriously, I'm a proud OU alum, but you gotta know your place in this world. We have a nice little school with a better coach than we deserve, and the hopes of being more than an afterthought amongst mid-majors. The idea of Ohio State as some sort of rival is a fantasy (or nightmare). We're not going to have a Kansas-KSU or Iowa-ISU sort of relationship. Texas-Texas State is more like it.

Dave Zastudil baby!:tongue2:

Seriously though, this post is exactly how I feel as well. As bad as they've been I would be thrilled with competing for the MAC and being the best team in Ohio not named Ohio State.

The MAC is a good non-BCS conference and if Ohio Univ. was to ever win it, that would be a pretty big deal. With the pariody in college football now, there is alot of nice talent at those MAC schools. Ohio Univ. needs to concentrate on getting some talent into their program and build a team from there. I watch tons of college football and the MAC seem to be on ESPN on Thursday nights all the time, yet I have never seen Ohio Univ. on ESPN thursday night. Some of those schools in the MAC have some seriously rabid fans, Ohio Univ. lacks that greatly. If they could pack their stadium with 20,000 green and white crazies I think that would go a long way to helping their football team. As it stands now, football games there are just something to do if OSU has a bye week or plays a late Saturday game. Frank should be able to turn that program in the right direction but a supportive fan base in the stadium would help a ton. Hell, if your a student its free, you cant even see high school games for free!!

Go Bucks!!

- Making Athens a more rabid atmosphere for MAC opponents. -sucks that you're out in the middle of nowhere. If it helps OU was one of my most hated trips behind Marshall and Miami. I don't think they are allowed to do this anymore, but they used to put the band on the field right behind the bench. You couldn't hear shit back there. By the 4th quarter I wanted to shove their drumsticks up their asses.
- Winning the recruiting wars amongst Ohio schools not named "The Ohio State University" -also not going to help being out in the middle of nowhere. Many players might prefer a more urban environment.
- Scoring more big wins over top-tier MAC schools like NIU -NIU wasn't even 1A 10 years ago. With the right coaching and players any MAC school can become one of the better MAC schools
- Competing regularly for the MAC East title -we all should be so lucky, but there have to be doormats i.e. Buffalo
- Knocking off at least one weaker BCS conference school per year -Close games with BCS teams every year would be a good mark, with a win every 2 to 4 years. If a MAC team beat every BCS team they played they wouldn't be able to schedule any BCS teams.
- Getting one of the MAC's three bowl bids - I miss the days of the Las Vegas Bowl. That would have been a hell of a lot more fun than Detroit.
- Winning a bowl
- Consistently be the "best of the rest" in Ohio
- Someday beat a team ranked in the Top 25
- Putting a marquee player in the NFL - What is Dave Zastudil chopped liver? :p
