Oversigning (capacity 25, everyone welcome! maybe)

It was never meant as a "rebuttal to oversigning." It was yet another attempt to point out how the real world works, and to educate some of you who refuse to let go of certain ignorant assumptions - such as making pronouncements that equate the number of LOIs to players contributing to programs on the field. The number of verbals does not equal numbers of LOIs on NSD. The numbers of LOIs on NSD does not equal the number of kids that will be enrolled and playing at a program. Adding the number of LOIs at Program A when compared to the number at Program B, and then saying "over four years Program A had twenty more players than B did" is just a big fat, ignorant lie. (not saying "you" personally Josh)
But if Cyrus Kutgotiawugitoeu doesn't sign with Auburn, his verbal won't contribute to the "big fat, ignorant lie" nor the total number of signees. He will be removed.

Like I said, that's an outdated rebuttal given the tracking of LOIs in recruiting classes.

The LOI->enroll ratio is another story.

2011 Totals so far (signed / total verbals)

23 / 24 - Georgia - Another year, another top recruiting class without oversigning.

Along that note - a quote from CMR attacking the Over Signing Ethos...

One of the hardest things for us to do is to evaluate and nail down who you?re going to go after, especially in our own state. A lot of the out of state teams will just come in and just offer like mad. They?ll come in and just offer like candy. Quite frankly I?m not going to name names of schools, but a lot of them will do that just to get in the fight and if the kid commits too soon and they?re not sure they want, they?ll just tell them that?s not a committable offer. Whatever the heck that means? If we offer a kid in our state and he says he?s coming, we want to take him, OK? Sometimes we?re a little bit slower to offer maybe than some out of state schools. Sometimes that might hurt a kid?s feelings. Sometimes that might hurt a coach?s feelings. That?s not our intention. Our intention is to have integrity when we offer a kid and be able to follow through.?

If I refuse to agree that all goat milk products cause constipation, you saying "if you don't eat cheese, your poop won't get hard..." does not invalidate my statement.

Ferentz: Oversigning ‘indicates a little different set of priorities’

“That being said, I’m glad we’re a Big Ten member institution,” Ferentz said. “That’s one thing we encourage a lot of parents to do, go back and look at the numbers that schools sign if they are considering a school. I do think its telling.”

“The math is fairly obvious,” Ferentz said. “To me it indicates a little different set of priorities. I better stop at that.”

Can anyone explain how USC can take 30 kids with the scholarships they lose?

Several are early enrollees, which count toward the previous year's class. Getting rid of that loophole would solve a lot of shenanigans.

The other big factor is that they've appealed the scholarship reductions, and are able to take a full class until the appeal is resolved. So they're stocking up.

Meaning Kiffin is trying to have a big year or two with USC before he bails

Yup, or trying to stock up and build some good will before the poo hits the fan. One way or another, USC is going to suffer, especially now that the NCAA has targeted Kiffy for his disasterous work for one year at Tenn. Dude's a mess.

The appeal basically just pushes the start of the punishment back a year, right? So it'll be the '12 and '13 classes that will suffer for USC?
