Paging all old-timers....

12 days since surgery and the difference is incredible. Off of the walker and onto a cane for a bit. Within a week of surgery, she was already getting around better and in less pain.

Buckey, given the physical rehab, I'm sure she'd appreciate a "welcome home" gift from you - maybe a new vacuum or cookware set?

It's the thoughtful things like that can make a marriage last....

not trying to hijack this "hip" thread, but had my left knee totally replaced last Tuesday, and I'm in a rehab center my 3rd of 7, and already feeling better. No matter how badly it feels, DO THE EXERCISES, else it'll stiffen up and you'll lose what mobility you had. Pain will be gone, but you'll limp and gimp. Any advice for weeks two and three?

That's awesome. So how long do I have to wait til I can come over?

I've been told it'll be a while yet, but they did give her a disturbingly informative pamphlet on returning to sex, with cartoon drawings of old people in various positions to boot!

Absolutely. I'd say a nice vacuum is way sturdier than a crutch for when she's walking around the house.

Future care

Not to be an alarmist but please, check online or with your doctor or the manufacturer of the hardware and keep an eye on recalls or long term problems. My MIL is on a cane and is cycled through four different pain meds to avoid any one addiction due to a degrading replacement hip. The manufacturere had a recall and did not do full disclosure. by the time she found out it was too late to be a part of the ckass action suit.

In discussing with her doctor what to do about it her only options were to keep it in and be in constant pain or take a 75 percent chance she wouldnt walk again after a reattempt to replace the replacement.

It may be an unusual result and I am in no way trying to scare anyone. I just wanted ti dramatically illustrate why it is up to you, the patient and family, to keep up on the long term after care and followup just in case.

I am very glad to hear she is back on her feet!
