Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Man...those BWI threads are killing me. That 9/11 one was almost too much. Have they compared Emmert to Hitler and the current roster to six million Jews yet?

The ones that blow my mind are the guys who are taking PSU off if their resume and mailing their diplomas back to the school...not out of shame of the cover up and that they don't want to be associated with child molestation, that stuff is completely fine. They're doing it because the school isn't fighting the NCAA and their football team is going to suck. What a bunch of fairweather regards.

The thing is that deep down a lot of those guys knew everything they're saying is a load of horseshit, but they cant admit to themselves...they're still in complete denial. Or am I just giving them too much credit?

I seriously think the funniest thing that could happen (other than McGloin's face as he stands behind an offensives line of walk on players going up against Spence,Adolph and Simon) is if one of them came to this thread to "set the record straight"...well, having all of the roster leave that they have a little over a month to scrape up an all walk on team would still be funnier but you know what I mean.

Emmert had some great comments yesterday. He said that he was seeing bylines that Monday was the darkest day in Penn State history. But what about the days on which Sandusky was abusing children in their facilities? What about the days when men were conspiring to cover it up? How could the day that the football team was sanctioned be their darkest day?

Once again highlighting that his goal to change the culture has already failed miserably and he needs to revisit the punishment he handed down.

If he is hoping that 10-15 years of mediocrity are going to change the culture, he needs to take a look at Penn State's time in the Big Ten and reevaluate that position as well.

I think folks may be surprised at how many players and commits stay. The PSU- culture is self-reinforcing. If you are in Happy Valley you don't have the distractions of downtown LA (or even downtown Columbus), local pro franchises, etc. You indeed are Penn State because that is your total environment. It becomes much more your identity than any other university I can think of. And if you can ignore the message board extremists its not 100% bad.

For those interested in following who is staying and going there is this thread on Audibles:

The second poster in that thread had a really good idea in pinning it to the top.

That culture is very deep and penetrated into the landscape of Pennsylvania and will not die quickly.
But there are plenty of good people there and in Pennsylvania. Just read former player, Sean Lee's comments and he gets it.

Sounds Like North Korea, good times.

In talking to other folks around, most feel that the sanctions are appropriate by the NCAA. I also had one person say that the NCAA may have not given PSU the Death Penalty due to what they learned from the SMU Death Penalty. He stated that this had a profound impact on the SWC and that maybe the NCAA was concerned of what could occur in the BIG.

The sanctions will weaken the conference in football. But this has to play out to see how much it all means. PSU is still a great academic school.
That culture absolutely must change. I just have this feeling they will bail on the BIG.

I've heard similar musings, but the difference is that-especially in this tumultuous CFB landscape-PSU could be replaced fairly quickly. It may have a ripple effect throughout the have-not conferences, but the B1G would be fine.

I would agree with you on this, especially the way teams are switching conferences at this time.
