PF/C Kosta Koufos (CSKA Moscow)

if the over/under is 12.5, i'm taking the over and feeling really good about it. in some ways, though, it depends on just how much othello has and will progress on offense. believing coach, he has progressed a lot. a lot. neither koufos nor hunter are 5s. anyway, it will be interesting to see how they play off of each other, as well as koufos off of diebler and butler. the pick-and-rolls between koufos and diebler/butler will be something to watch this year. though no sleight to butler, the games that koufos and diebler will play off of each other will be really interesting.

Hawes averaged 14.9 and 6.4 last year on a balanced team (5 guys in double figures). I believe KK is a little taller, much stronger, more athletic and just as skilled at putting the ball in the basket as Hawes. ITs hard to predict just what he will average because we don't know if the offense will run through him or not, but if he gets 30+ min a game, and 12-14 FG attempts, I think he will easily average 15 points a game.

SI - Luke Wynn's Top15 frosh

Koufos wasn't a top-10 prospect coming out of high school in Canton, Ohio, but he exploded on the international scene this summer and greatly elevated his reputation. Playing for his mother's native country, Greece, at the European Under-18 Championships in Spain, Koufos was named the tournament MVP after averaging a stunning 26.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.4 steals.

This was one that always boggled my mind...

I mean with the game evolving into a big mans game with the ability to play like a Guard, and in the same mold of a Dirk type I figured he would be top 10 just based on potential, but with his skill set I always thought for sure he would be top 10...

I never understood his relatively low ranking either(he's easily a top 5 player in the class based on size, skill, and potential).

The only possibility I could think of is that his AAU team wasn't very good.

Also, to add to the list of projections of Kosta's stats. I'll say 12 shots a night, 55 percent shooting from the floor, 30 percent shooting from three, 16 points a game.

It's hard for me to project his blocks and rebounds, because I'm not sure how Othello and Kosta will be used. Will Othello be the designated C, or will Kosta? Who will guard the athletic big men we face(I know he's in the NBA right now, but someone like Brandon Wright from UNC.

I'm really curious to see how our defense rotates in the frontcourt.

Yeah it going to be interesting how Thad uses all of them togehter...

I am hoping to see a lot of pick and pop stuff...Since all of our big guys have the ability to shoot, and Diebler and Butler will present such a threat off the bounce to shoot off the dribble, and guys like Lighty and Turner can use the screen to get to hole and then kick...

I really don't see much reason for a traditional post offense, unless we do a high low at times with KK and Hutner...

I felt like at times last year Oden slowed down our offense. It should be cool to see how Kosta's style of play meshes with the offense we have. Granted we lost lots of our shooters from graduation/the pros last year, but I am eager to see what our offense can do when its let loose to run up and down the floor when need be.

Yes! He did slow things down! That is against Matta's up tempo style.
Now, you will see much more up tempo!

Only because we were trying to feed him in the post and once he got it there he usually scored. I don't think we will see as much post scoring this year as we did last.
