  • The Bucs look to continue their record string of professional futility, shooting for their 18th straight losing season while signing cast offs, misfits and aging vets looking for one more deal.

    Championship!

The biggest move of the offseason was rejecting Mario Lemieux's bid to purchase the team. Yeah, the excitement for the upcoming season is palpable. :ohwell:

I think they could use Mario Lemieux playing on the team...

That said, guys like Iwamura and Church are solid pros...they just don't have the Jason Bay or Nate McLouth anymore to surround them with. Hell they don't even have the Jack Wilson anymore to surround them with...

McLouth needed to move to make way for Andrew McCutcheon, who looks like the real deal, but I was hoping he'd move to left field rather than Atlanta. Jason Bay would've been gone by now, anyway, given the amount of cash he got from New York. Jack Wilson? I think Seattle is already regretting that deal.

They've added 27 players to a farm system that needed new blood over the last 2 years. That was good, but they needed to take that approach a decade ago. Perhaps the dividends will come over the next few years, but 2010 looks to be more of the same. :ohwell:

And, when you think of what it was like in the 1960s, Clemente, Stargell, World Series...

When you say you are a Pirates fan, people look at you like you are in a witness protection program.
