Pirates tidbits (2010)

Pedro Alvarez is looking like a #1 pick in July, hitting over .300 with 6 HRs and 14 RBI so far. It would be nice to see the Bucs actually have a #1 pick pan out for a change.

And another one leaves the yard. That's 4 homers the last 2 nights. :)

The Indians suck balls too but I don't run to their thread every time it happens. The Pirates actually beat their sorry asses 2 out of 3.

The Bucs look to continue their record string of professional futility, shooting for their 18th straight losing season while signing cast offs, misfits and aging vets looking for one more deal.

Brendan Donnelly
Octavio Dotel
Neal Cotts
Aki Iwamura
Ryan Church
Bobby Crosby

Championship!

Cotts was cut in Spring Training, Iwamura was cut in May, Donnelly was cut in July and the others got traded away over the weekend. It's either laugh or cry, folks.

No Surprise Here....

GM: Pirates WON?T be spending on high-priced free agents

GM Neal Huntington reiterated Thursday the Pirates? long-held stance that they will not address immediate needs through high-priced free agents. ?We?re not going to add a No. 1 starter in free agency,? Huntington said at the PNC Park news conference to introduce top draft pick Jameson Taillon. ?We?re not going to add a true, major-league power bat in free-agency.?

"We're going to take our 20 Million profit and keep it".

Way to go you fuckin' hosers.

No free agent who is worth anything is coming to Pittsburgh until they show they can be a competitive organization. Until then, all they'd get are guys at the end of their careers, and overpay to do it. They did that with Littlefield - Jeromy Burnitz, Derek Bell, et al. No thanks.

No one has spent more money on draft picks the last 3 years than the Pirates. I'm more interested in that, so long as they draft well. THAT could be the problem.

So the Pirates hired Clint Hurdle to be their new manager. Whoop-de-freakin-do.

Hurdle has had one winning season in his managerial career. When Colorado fired him, he was replaced by Jim Tracy - who looked like a complete idiot managing the Pirates - and Tracy has two winning season in 2 years there.

Meanwhile, former Pirate and western PA native Ken Macha was passed over by the Bucs again in his third bid for their managerial position. Why not? All he has done in his 6 years as a MLB manager is finish first twice, second twice, and third twice in small markets Oakland and Milwaukee. Obviously, he's not fit to manage the Pirates. :roll1:

Fucking idiots.

[censored]ing idiots.

I'd think you'd be happy Macha didn't get the job. The guy was completely out of touch with the ball club in Milwaukee. Not only did he have problems with guys in Oakland, but he couldn't get along with Braun and Fielder. Played AL style ball in the NL and wouldn't change. Managed with ZERO fire/emotion even when it was needed. Didn't protect his ball club. Thank god he is gone from Milwaukee and be thankful he isn't in Pittsburgh.
