Pirates tidbits (2010)

And a 17-3 loss to Milwaukee last night. The Brewers have outscored Pittsburgh 53-4 in the 4 games they've played this season. Ouch.

The Pirates have now won the next 3 versus the Brew Crew and have passed them in the standings.

Sports History

On this day in 1959 Pirates' hurler Harvey Haddix pitches 12 perfect innings, but loses 1-0 to the Braves in the 13th inning. The heart-breaking winning run scores on a Don Hoak error, a sacrifice, a walk and a two-bagger by Joe Adcock.

Good grief. Do the Pirates have anyone other than Charlie Morton to run out there every fifth day? Barring a miracle comeback, he's going to fall to 1-9 with a 9.35 ERA. :sick1:

43-1/3 innings in 10 starts. 66 hits surrendered. 12 homers allowed. At least 5 runs in 7 of his 10 starts. Ouch.

Didn't he used to quarterback the Baltimore Colts??? I'm thinking he may be over the hill...

I told the wife last night that the next time he pitches, I'm betting the mortgage on whoever the Pirates are playing, which of course means he'll throw a gem. I couldn't believe last night the Reds were only -167 with Morton on the mound for the Buccos.

Finally!
Charlie Morton and his 10.00 ERA is out of the rotation. The Pirates are 19-19 when he's not the starting pitcher, 1-9 when he starts.

"Shoulder fatigue?" No shit?!

Who knew throwing 40 pitches an inning caused shoulder fatigue?

I'd still trade Mike Lincoln for him straight up. The front end of the Reds pen is so bad a guy that would only give up two runs an inning would be an upgrade.

Amazingly, the Pirates have the best record in the National League in one-run games at 11-5.

Alas, they're 10-26 in games that aren't so close. :ohwell:

SIX fucking errors tonight, leading to a 10th straight loss. :shake:

I've got tickets to the Bucs-Tribe Saturday night so I'm going, but I think I'll take some advice from Dr. Bluto.
