Smizik is right. I've had numerous "debates" with Pirates fans who still see Duke as some kind of ace. Opponents bat over .300 against him for his career. That's EVERYBODY. Duke is mediocre, at best.

One clown tried to tell me they should trade Duke and Doumit for Jason Heyward, and he was serious. I'd agree if the Braves were run by complete idiots. Talk about delusional. :shake:

I guess I need to go to PNC Park more often. Went to my first game of the season last night. The place was packed, and the Pirates ended their 12 game losing streak by knocking off Cleveland, 6-4.

For the Indians fans who seem to like to visit this thread, the woeful Buccos take 2 of 3 from the Tribe to up their H2H lead in inter league play to 15-12.

Just imagine how bad it'll get if the Pirates ever put together a good team?

Pirates fire outspoken pierogi - Daily Pitch: MLB News, Standings, Schedules & More - USATODAY.com

The Pittsburgh Pirates revealed last week that manager John Russell and GM Neal Huntington have received contract extensions, so the fall guy for the perennial cellar-dwellers is .... a pierogi.Andrew Kurtz, 24, one of 18 men who receive $25 about four times a month for dressing as a pierogi for the popular mid-game "race," was dismissed for questioning the contract extensions on his Facebook page, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
He told the paper the team's mascot co-ordinator called him about four hours after the message was posted and told him to turn in his black Spandex pants and pierogi shirt.
A club spokesman said the team wouldn't comment specifically on the case but confirmed the termination of a part-time employee already serving a suspension for a previous violation of company policy. Kurtz said that involved a miscommunication about his schedule.
Meanwhile, the Pirates ended a 12-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory against Cleveland on Saturday night. That avoided matching their longest single-season losing streak in 120 years.

The Bucs winning the series versus Cleveland gets funnier as the Rangers just ass rape the woeful Pirates. This team is young in a few places and shitty everywhere else.

Took 3 of 4 from the Phillies. Doesn't hurt to miss Halladay.

At least Alvarez and Tabata are showing signs of life. It would be nice if another prospect or two actually panned out, besides McCutchen.

I caught 9 kinds of hell back in '06 when for saying I thought the Reds should trade Arroyo while he was hot to the Yankees for Hughes and Tabata. Most Reds fans were screaming that we were contenders and you couldn't trade the second coming of Cy Young (Arroyo's first half of that year).

I thought the Yanks might do the deal back then from the angle they needed the pitching help and it would be a good way to stick it to the Red Sox. No way of knowing if the Yanks would have done it but it would have been a good deal for the Reds.

TAMPA, Fla. - A woman accused of faking a pregnancy and stealing a baby to fool her baseball player husband into thinking he was the father has pled guilty.

Amalia Tabata-Pereira, 44, pled guilty in Hillsborough Circuit Court on Wednesday on charges of kidnapping, interference with custody and impersonating a public officer.

She is married to Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata.

Jose is 22 years old. WTF was that about anyway?

He's been playing pretty well since his call up so this bitch needs to go away.

Pedro Alvarez is looking like a #1 pick in July, hitting over .300 with 6 HRs and 14 RBI so far. It would be nice to see the Bucs actually have a #1 pick pan out for a change.
