Pirates tidbits (2012 season)

Wow, someone out there really hates the poor Buccos. This schedule has "buried by the end of April" written all over it. Off the top of my head I'll say 7-15, at best, but that may be a tad optimistic. :shake:

I thought the same thing when the schedule was released. If they are anywhere close to .500 come May it will be miraculous.

The Bucs beat the Braves 9-3 tonight to finish April with a 10-12 record. All things considered, I'll take it. :)

Pirates pitchers set a team record for a 9 inning game by fanning 17 Cardinals is a 6-3 road victory Thursday. :)

I won't mention how the pitchers fared the first 2 games of the series. :(

Three days later, Pirate batters K 17 times in a 5-0 loss to the Reds. Of course.

AJ Burnett give the Bucs 10 strike outs over 8 innings while allowing only 2 runs, Hanrahan comes in to save a 3-2 win...and gives up a two run bomb to former Pirate Adam LaRoche.

Just when it looked like "the Pirates being the Pirates", journeyman bum catcher Rod Barajas finally does something and hits a 2 run walk off homer. :)

The inevitable Bedard injury occurred after 1 inning tonight - that's why the Pirates were able to sign him - but the bullpen came through and Hanrahan shut the door this time, 4-2.

Back to back wins for the first time in about a month...woohoo. :ohwell:

Pirates 3
Marlins 2

Three game winning streak, first one this season. Yeah, that's cause for celebration for Bucs' fans.

17-18 thru 35 games. :ohwell:

Bucs lose 2 of 3 in Detroit but have 3 more against the Motor City Kitties at PNC next month.

Next 9 games are at home versus Mets, Cubs, and Reds. Having managed to not fall too far below .500 during the rugged first five week schedule the Bucs need to take 6 of 9 to get back to .500 at the 50 game mark. Important early stretch if there is to be any hope of breaking the dreaded streak this year.

Currently, 19-22. :ohwell:

A 4th straight win - this time versus the Reds - puts the Bucs back to .500 at 24-24. :pirate1:

Modern day history suggests a losing streak is just around the corner, though.

Hanrahan nails down the rubber match against the Reds to finish off a 6-3 home stand making the Buccos 25-25 through 50 games. Mission accomplished, now it's time to hit the road and try to keep it going. :pirate2:

Nice stat. Grilli and Hanrahan have been dominant so far. :pirate1:
