Pirates tidbits (2012 season)

I feel for the Pirates fans who made the trip to Baltimore. Not only are they getting swept, they're looking extremely uncompetitive in the process. Then again, we're kinda used to that shit. :ohwell:

Bucs rebound, winning the last two in Cleveland to take 2 of 3 from the Tribe and now lead the all time series between the clubs by one game. :pirate1:

James McDonald pitches his first complete game, Alvarez hits one out of PNC Park (literally) and the Bucs take the rubber match from Minnesota, 9-1. :pirate1:

Bucs took 2 of 3 from Detroit then hit the road for 7 games at Philly and STL. It started poorly, getting whupped the first 2 games by the Phillies but the Pirates turned it around and split the 4 games. Not bad considering their history in eastern PA. Tonight they began a 3 game series in STL with a half game lead over the Cards. After falling behind 5-2 in the 3rd it looked like a long night and it was...for the Cardinals.

Pirates 14, Cardinals 5

Don't look now but Pittsburgh is second in the league in runs scored in June. I don't know how the fuck they're doing it but if it keeps up this could - possibly - be a season unlike any other of the last 20 years. No, I'm not talking WS, I'm just shooting for 82 wins to end that damn streak. We'll see...41-35 so far. :pirate1:

Recent history is on your side, wise ass, but nothing lasts forever.

A grand slam for Alvarez in the first inning today. The Bucs have hit 39 home runs in June. That ties the franchise record for home runs in 1 month. Again, unbelievable given how pathetic the offense was in April and May.

AJ Burnett didn't have it tonight. The Bucs fell behind the Asstros 6-2 before rallying to take a 7-6 lead going to the 9th. Hanrahan uncharacteristically blew the save one strike away from victory, but no matter as scrap heap pickup from last week Drew Sutton jacked a home run over the CF wall to win it 8-7 in walk off fashion.

Long way to go, obviously, but if you offered me 44-36 through 80 games before the season I would've jumped all over it. :pirate2:

First time 8 games over .500 since the last day of the regular season in 1992!!!

11 games over .500 at the AS break. Obviously, that's the best at this point since 1991 (17 games over). In '92, the Bucs won the division but were only 8 games over at the break.

It's about fucking time the Bucs put a decent team in the field.

They haven't been worth a damn since Mazeroski circled the bases against the Yankees.
