Pittsburgh Steelers (official thread)

The first football game I ever remember sitting down and watching was SB XIV Rams vs. Steelers. I was 9 years old. They have been my team ever since.

I was born in Ohio and the local teams obviously had first dibs on my loyalty but they chose to suck ass long and epically hard. At 9 years old I wasn't asking a whole lot of questions.

If anyone asks me to name 6 players my response would be "from what year?"

I suffred through Bubby fucking Brister and his Mom. I suffered through Niel O'Donnel and Kordell fucking Stewart. The difference is when the Steelers were down they were still decent. I can live with a team that plays good hard physical defense, runs the ball and just happens to have a fucktard for a QB. Thats why I stayed loyal to the Steelers, they play football the right way, at least in my mind.....defense first and always physical.

This shit about steroids, refs, and integrity is beneath some of you guys especially considering most of you are Bengals/Browns fans. This is the NFL not college, most of these guys would be in fucking prison if they weren't exceptionally good at football.

A 9-year-old frontrunner is still a frontrunner.

My mom recently bought a Browns shirt for my cousin, who just so happens to be 9. He told my mom that's he's afraid to wear it to school because he gets made fun of by little Steelers fans.... in central [censored]ing Ohio.

So I told him to just tell those little bastards that they're a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. He felt better after that.

The funny thing is for all the severe vaginal irritation in this thread, the people accusing Steelers fans of being classless assholes are the only ones actually being classles assholes.

I'd imagine if this were in the real world you'd be throwing beer bottles by now.

I don't know if a 9-year old even knows what a bandwagon is, let alone how to jump on one.

Exactly. The problem with the comments being made in the last couple of pages is that the posters are taking a sampling of Steelers' fans which truth be told are probably actually "front-runners" and confusing them for real Steelers' fans. Do you really think given all the recent success the Bucks have had that you can't walk into a grocery store in suburban Detroit on the day of The Game, find someone in a Buckeye jersey, ask them to name six offensive and defensive players for the Bucks and not have them be able to do it?

That being said, I would be very interested to know what exactly is the criteria for choosing to root for a particular professional sports team since certain members of this board are the experts in the area.

Obviously people living in Steubenville or St. Clairsville should be obligated to root for the Browns and Bengals simply because they reside within Ohio's borders; despite the fact they are much closer to Pittsburgh and until very recently probably didn't have any choice to watch any games on Sundays except for the Steelers. When I grew up the local stations would show the Bucks on Saturday, if you were lucky, and the Steelers on Sunday. I guess I should have chose to root for the Browns who I got to see twice a year instead.

I'm going to start a thread about that subject (your favorite teams and how did you choose them) if there isn't already one in existence.

I think it would be very interesting.

That is the problem you run into with on all teams that are good or become good. The bandwagon fans come out of the woodwork. When Bengals made the playoffs the last two times, and ESPN was hyping them as a great team you saw all sorts of bandwagon fans show up. It happens and just assume that most the people are dumbasses. About 5 minutes of talking to someone you can figure out easily if they re a real fan or a bandwagon fan.

Guys, this is a thread for Steelers fans to talk about their team. Let's leave it to them. Thanks.

I will reiterate this again. There is nothing, in any context, that I like about the Steelers at all, but this is not the place for me or others to trash them, the fans, the steroids, the tow truck guy, or anything else. Let Steelers fans be Steelers fans in this thread, or at the very least please discuss football. Start another thread if you want to talk about the other stuff. Thanks.

get him a GB jersey, let him wear it to school for the next week. Tell him to talk shit. then burn it, give him back Browns shirt.

holybuckeye is right.. Most fans that grew up in the Valley saw more Steeler football then they did of the Browns or Bengals. The same lame ass arguments people are bringing up about Steeler fans can be said about any fany base.

I was at a bar and this stupid ass bartender thought she was cool and dissing on the Steelers cause she was this great big time Browns fan. Yet she only knew 2-3 people on offense or defense. Couldn't recall what year they got the hell out of Cleveland to go to Baltimore. The worse part is when some other "Browns" fans tried to come help her they were just as dumb.

What does this prove..not a damn thing. There are good fans and lame fans in every sport and every team.
