I still love my 50" 720p Panasonic for 899 after a big sale at Best Buy.

You really can't go wrong with Panasonic, as long as it has enough hdmi ports & resolution (some sale TVs have 1024x768 resolution, which is too low) to suit your tastes.

Samsung's and panny's are the way to go imo..

I did a lot of online research (Consumer Reports, CNET, AVS Forum, etc) and decided the Panasonic Viera S1 or Viera G10 plasmas were the way to go. However, when I went to stores and looked at them in person, I thought the Samsung LCD's had a clearly better picture. I ended up going with a Samsung LCD 630 model from Amazon.

Something to keep in mind TB. Usually when on display they have all the settings out of wack. It's hard to judge based on how it looks just sitting there..Although you can't go wrong with a samsung imo.

They always set them on Vivid, which pops in the store but is a horrible overall setting. Add in weak source signals and too much lighting (one reasons LCD's look better in the store....they are better in heavily lit areas but worse in dimly lit areas), and most places are rather poor for doing comparisons. At least BB added Magnolia stores which have low lighting, better signals/direct sources, and often calibrated. Of course that is only for the high end models.

My Optoma HD20 showed up.. unreal. 115" of 1080p for $999 - looks great. The only negative I had found while researching was the blacks weren't "ink" black - can't tell at all. With 4,000 hour bulb life - I'm beyond happy with the buy.

Highly recommend it to anyone considering dropping the money.

What does everyone think of this 3D tv nonsense? Are we going to have to wear those silly glasses for this shit to work?

My parents just bought a 55" Samsung LED TV over the holidays. This is the best looking tv I have ever seen in my life.

Curmudgeon.

Now you see why I don't pay for HD. At my age, I'm lucky to see the TV screen. I have no need to be able to distinguish a pimple on Mark (the Shark) Titus's face as he rides the bench when I watch Buckeye hoop.

Bought a 50" Samsung 1080p Plasma tonight from Best Buy for $899. Signed up for 3year financing on their CC with 0% APR. It's $26+change a month if paid in 3 years. Picking it up Monday because it couldn't fit in my car.

Can't wait to see this thing for NCAA 11 and college football season in the fall, not to mention the World Cup now!!!

They have power board issues. Mine lasted about a year and now is a 350 lb paper weight. Batch of bad capacitors and resistors.

It can be fixed, but normally you have to replace the entire power board.

It is a phenominal deal however and a great TV. Just do a little research if you run into issues. Do a google on Plasma power supply issues and you will see what I mean.

Even though they are more expensive and don't have the absolute best picture, Sony has the best reliability record. That's where my money is going. I hate dealing with tv problems. Currently have a Panasonic and it's crap. Was never right from day one.

I looked at the reviews at Best Buy.com on the TV. Overall got VERY good results, only negative was mostly the sound (speakers) which are on the back side underneath the TV.

That being said, I've never heard of MAJOR problems with Plasma's and their power board issues. I didn't get the BB protection plan (4yrs) because imo, it's a rip off. However, I do have 30 days from yesterday to purchase it, so I guess I'll give it some thought.

And I could always return it and get a different TV (which I would then switch to LCD).
