QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

QB C.J. STROUD
  • "Definitely not 100 percent, but who is 100 percent at this time." Stroud says he was "healthy enough to play."

Just "healthy enough to play" doesn't necessarily cut it. I think Stroud's (sub par) performance against Tulsa proved that we need a 100% healthy Stroud going forward. If resting him against Akron will get him healthy, I think that they should rest him. Besides we need to see what QB2 will do in a real game.
I’m with the coaches on this one right up to February and 3 backups are in the portal. Your nuts if you don’t think the other three. QB’s think I could do better with a chance. None of em think they are back ups. Kenny G knew he was a back up.

This is a large reason why I bet CJ is saying he's healthy enough to play. If he steps off the field and Kyle lights up Akron then what?

That if he's not healthy he shouldn't play?

What's stupid is hoping he continues to play on an injured throwing arm.
All of this isn’t on him.. its on the trainers and the coaches… Kid is never gonna say “yea coach I can’t go today”. Its on the adults in the room to make the choice for him. I wonder how much Burrow vs Haskins plays into this because by all accounts Burrow was ahead til the hand injury, then he was gone. We might not see it but perhaps before the injury Stroud was looking like the kid who won elite 11.

again to me this is on the coaches Day and Denis (who hopefully isn’t getting to much advice on how to handle some things form his F-i-L), not on the kid - I applaud him for being honest.. but any sort of anger or questions should be directed towards the coaches

It’s all on the coaches …Players play if the coach says play..especially in College the coach doctors have to protect the player from himself. I figure Day is convinced Stroud is best it’s not like Day is on the hot seat. It’s also on Day to communicate to the other 3 what they have to do to be next man up.

You don’t have a pulse on this kid, the situation of his health, or clue in general. You think you know based on a few things you have seen.

The reality:

963 yards (6th in country)
8 TD (tied for 12th in country)
62.4 CMP%
Averaging 9.5 a pop (15th in country)

The kid is a redshirt freshman. As a whole offense, they haven’t clicked. Starting to find answers at running back. O-line finally blocked well in the run game. Receivers have done decent…not great. Bigger issues out there than this kid.

It is Ohio State. They have world class trainers and doctors. If it’s bad enough they will pull him.

Stroud, however, says he isn’t worrying about the outside criticism. Although Saturday’s game was statistically his worst so far, Stroud believes he is improving each week, and he doesn’t lack confidence in himself.

“Every game’s a learning aspect for me. I’m only 19 playing as a redshirt freshman. That’s no excuse, but I still have a lot of football to learn, and I feel like I’m getting better and better every week,” Stroud said. “I know a lot of people probably don’t agree with that, but that’s OK. I have God-given talent, and every time I go out there, I give it my blood, sweat and my tears. And if that’s a problem with media, whoever it is, it is what it is. I’m gonna keep my faith in God and my teammates and they have good faith in me, and I’m gonna just keep going. I don’t worry about the negativity. I’m all about being positive, and I feel like I’m a great player. Of course, everybody has mistakes, but I know I’m a great player.”

Just sayin': Yeah, it's up to the coaches and medical personnel; obviously Stroud isn't going to take himself out of the game.

Not sure what you're looking for with this question. Because if McCord lights it up and the offense looks competent and efficient, then we may have a new starter. This elite CFB, this isn't HS or lower level FBS. Feelings have to be taken out. Strouds here to win games, and make the offense run the best that can, if he can't do that, then find someone who can. It's funny how so many people calling out other players for underperforming, but won't hold the most important position accountable. I get it, he's 19 and in his first action, but the best need to play, regardless if that's Stroud or anyone else.

Most don’t feel he is the problem with the offense being out of sync.

Receivers get blamed for drops but Stroud has completions that we’re uncatchable for a lot of receivers. He’s been bailed out a lot..
