QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I completely agree but you can't understate Braxton's ability to run around the defense. That's something that can't really be prepared for.
Oh absolutely that's where the gap is. Braxton can't be simulated as far as his ability to produce when there isn't anything there. I think at this point it's just got to be understood that its a all hands on deck type of approach now

The way I see it is while this sucks we still have a high shot of winning it all. I think with Braxton Tom Herman would've been more likely to run Braxton due to that being a comfort. However now I think our offense will be much more inclusive then ever. What's the point of all this recruiting if all we do is run our QB on power or draws? Now I feel Samuel, Jalin, Dontre, Zeke, Dixon, Clark become that much more involved. Overall I think eventually we may be harder to gameplan for because you really don't know who will be featured on a given play.
Similar to how Perry (I think) said the LBers last year relied on Shazier. If they didn't do their job 100% there was a decent shot Shazier would run the guy down from the opposite side. I think the offense a lot of the time relied on Hyde and Braxton. If the receivers didn't get away from the defenders or ran an incorrect route or coverage was botched (rarely, I know) then Braxton to the rescue. Now the receivers are going to have to step up and make sure they get open, linemen are going to have to step up and protect their freshman quarterback. The RB corps are going to have to find openings. '

I think J.T. will do fine. From what I've heard he can run but isn't nearly at the level as Braxton. We lose a little of our deep game because he doesn't have a cannon, but I will exchange both of those things gladly for a game manager who can get the ball to the open guys with accuracy. I wouldn't be surprised to see his accuracy as an improvement to what we saw last year from Braxton. He may not be a video game but don't forget he ran for over 1500 yards (over 3000 total yards) in his junior year. Last year they threw the deep ball A LOT, way more than I wanted. Probably because Braxton has incredible arm strength. Every time he threw a deep ball or took off running I held my breath, those are both very risky plays. I think this season will be much better for my heart, quick passes to all of our weapons.

I agree with this. Should be interesting to watch the O evolve.

I agree... I wouldn't be shocked with a 58% completion 25td to 10 int type of year for around 2400 yards maybe another 500 rushing.
I think he breaks 60% completion, actually I would go as high as guessing 64% (as he'll get the ball out quicker for shorter passes). He was a 69.8% completion guy in high school. Whereas Braxton was a 53% completion guy his last two years of high school, and then as 54%, 58%, 63.5% as OSU. Get all the rust out of his system after 2 years of no gameplay and I think he'll be a 3 year starter for us, potentially 4 years. Here's to 3 straight years of redshirt freshmen winning the heisman.

I've seen conflicting reports of his high school completion percentage. I've seen it in upper 50'sand upper 60's
Jr year stats:
Rivals has him at 111/159 69.8% 1604 yds 14 TD 7 Int
247 has him at 102/171 59.6% 1605 yds 14 TD 7 Int

both sites had him a shade over 1500 rushing yards

It seems a tad ambitious to expect anything more than 60% completion percentage. Being reasonable and from listening to reports over spring and fall camp, I think we can expect some serious growing pains. Hopefully we can find ways to use the skill position weapons via myriad running plays to allow JT some time to gain his footing.

I would be disappointed with SERIOUS growing pains... I expect some but lets remember who he is surrounded by with as many weapons as JT has. This is unlike first year QB Braxton when all he had was Boom. I don't expect 60+ completion percent but then again we really don't need that somewhere in the upper 50s would work out great. My projections for Jalin, Samuel, Zeke, and Dontre just got that much bigger though because I really feel we will do whatever it takes to get the ball Into their hands as quick as possible.

I certainly hope you are correct but I will be neither surprised nor disappointed if there aren't serious growing pains. The kid hasn't played a real snap in 2 years and has quite a bit of growth to make based upon practice reports. I like JT's potential, but I expect it to be a rough road for a good part of this year. ...and that's ok.

Go get em JT!!!!! Every mouth breathing media member on the planet has lowered their expectations for the season so you'll have zero pressure on you. All you have to do is get the ball in the hands of the really fast guys in S&G, go undefeated like in 2002 when another JT was around, and never lose a game to the bastards up north. Piece of cake.
