QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

And I disagree 100%... Sure he uses certain words more so then others but he's one of the better play by play folks there is. Whether that's telling to the quality of not who knows but id rather have Herbstreit over Beth No wind 10 of 10
He's a color guy that cannot come within miles of the depth offered by guys like Blackledge.

Go fire up NCAA the video game. You'll get the exact same comments based on computer code. He talks really well but says little.

Except when he's feeling moody, then he does awful stuff like this.

Just my preference when watching the game i just want someone who speaks clearly and well. If they can add some analysis great but I know football x and o so I don't care for folks who talk all game about how coaches are thinking.

Each of their own guys... let's beat army

if he were the play by play guy, his complete lack of insight wouldn't be a big problem. Brent M wasn't particularly shrewd but boy did he set the stage well.

Chris is the anti Herbie. He's not that polished but is oozing with substance and insight. Todd has both. So does McElroy, Charles Davis... Pre cbs Danielson, etc.

Haha I just don't pay much attention enough to these guys to give a rats ass... if it means having a buckeye on TV though then it's another feather in our cap at least

But that logic leads to Joey, who might be worse than Beth (and worse they often we're paired together )

I think he's settling in as a Robert smith type in the studio. He's a little abrasive but a lot better than in the announcer role.

And it's your prerogative to disagree...but as others have pointed out, he's color, not play by play (such as Beth)....and what he provides in color is shallow at best. He provides zero insight or critical analysis. It's emphatic catchphrases appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Just some random anonymous poster's opinion, but he's nothing more than a TV character and a face...who more often than not embarrasses the alumni of his alma mater.

You are entitled to your viewpoint, but I think this is absolute nonsense. He speaks in trite and vapid ways that shed nothing on the game. Speaking to something that the back room folks have put in a replay and told you about doesn't mean that you saw it. Everyone is playing with their ears pinned back, playing well or not so well in space, and this year we get the mesh routes. He's a nobody who tries to set himself up as someone with his Herbie awards and the like, which he no doubt funds.

I once thought well of him transiting to TV. Now, I realize that he rarely adds value. Think about it this way. If he was to move on from ESPiN tomorrow, do you really think they'd lose any more subscribers or that he couldn't easily be replaced? He brings what the Kardashians bring...a face that you recognize. Nothing more.

I agree but there is a big difference between engaging the kid by saying something like "show some respect" and leaving it at that versus the "I'm not a big fat poopy head, you are" kind of engagement which is what you are doing when you actually get into their nonsense with them.

Goes back to being the adult. Herbie fails.
Hahahah. Agree with both points.

Poopy head. HhahHahhaha

His direct quote was "OSU game this last weekend, they need to put my boy 'Haskins' in and let him work"....

The problem, IMO, is Herbie paraphrasing Carman on national radio, and claiming he called him a "bozo". He didn't come anywhere near that and that's disgraceful because it leads the casual fan to think Carman was being personal and directly disrespectful to JT.

He wasn't.....he showed support for what he thought Haskins could do. He didn't name call Barrett, or come anywhere near calling him a "bozo".

Herbie strikes again.....

This (bold above) needs repeated. I've defended Herbstreit more than most in the past but I don't know how you can possibly defend him here. Ridiculously irresponsible slander.
