QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

Because the rest of the Big 10 champions did not come through.

So Michigan State--who beat Wisconsin--gets repeatedly ape-fucked by an Alabama team who barely beat Arkansas, and Wisconsin loses its biggest game in years, while we shoulder-throw an 800-pound SEC gorilla off our back, and yet we get punished by losing three spots in the rankings--the same amount that Wisconsin does?

How in the fuck can you get bumped down three spots by winning a BCS bowl against a top-notch SEC team while your co-champ gets bumped down by the same amount by losing their BCS bowl to a non-AQ team?

yes it is a buckeye site and yes it's "ok" to talk about him. 1040 plus posts of "oh I don't like that he did this" or "Oh I don't like the way he said this"
He's made a few mistakes? OMG FLAY HIM!.
re: the rest Wahhhhhhhhhh

I disagree. The criticisms of him mentioning names of Buckeyes on a national broadcast who had nothing to do with what became the Tat-5 suspensions, and to my knowledge not yet apologizing for that, are not whining in the least. What he did was unprofessional and potentially harmful to Buckeyes that had done nothing wrong, and he certainly deserves to be called out for that.

The questioning of his placement of tOSU 9th in the final poll is also a legitimate topic, there really isn't a decent explanation for it when he had tOSU 6th before the bowl games.

If you want to defend him, that's fine, but simply categorizing a large proportion of the discussion in this thread as whining doesn't defend him very effectively.

There has been some whining in this thread, and there have been some posts that have crossed the line (since Herbstreit is a former Buckeye player, he can be criticized but not simply bashed); but I think there's a decent amount of discussion here that shouldn't be dismissed as whining.

I just hope anything Herbstreit says or does are his true opinions and not some convoluted, "Emperor Palpatine/WWE-style" plan to incite a huge support base to create reaction from "The Mothership".

Due to Ohio State's popularity -- only bowl out of 35 to actually increase TV ratings from the previous year -- it opens up questioning to anything that comes out of ESPN as to true opinion or wanting to create reaction from the huge base. Mark May and Cowherd incite the base weekly to gain reaction.

In ESPN's own ongoing, scientific polling of the U.S. population's favorite college football teams, only two BCS teams -- top-ranked Ohio State and 10th-ranked Wisconsin -- are among America's 10 favorite teams

I don't have time to go through the whole thread but here are the tags.
or, buckeye, espn hack, espn ken doll, gator wannabe, herbie, herpie, hyperbole, jesse palmer lite, pseudo buckeye, who cares.
Yes there are a few topics worth discussing. But let's leave out the whining and bashing.

What's your point? Is it your position that he should be able to say anything he wants, even if potentially damaging to their future livlihood, about any Buckeye anytime he wants without retraction or apology just because he used to play here? If not, then I would say that the criticism is valid. If so, then articulate why.

And who is more the whiner, the whiner or the whiner about the whiners?

Interesting column as far as it went, but it doesn't deal with the fact that these games are increasingly being shoved to week days -- especially week days that fall outside the holidays when people are less apt to have time off from work. And you can add the West Coast TV Marketing that has stamped an 8:30 start time and extra few minutes for the Disney/Broadway half time show. Now we're talking about games that aren't over until 11:30 - 12 with an obligation to go go to work or to school. I'll do that for the Bucks, but my interest in staying up for anything else is limited. It's been years since I watched Monday Night Football, 1990 since I watched a World Series, and this year I watched the first half of the NCG and Tivoed the rest. I imagine there are others who have done similar things over the last few years.

Finally, the bowl match ups still count on conference/regional rivalries and at the same time they destroy them. For historical/sociological reasons the Orange/Cotton/Sugar bowls pitted ACC, SEC and SWC teams against each other and the Rose belonged to the Pac 8/10 and the Big 10. The new match ups have all but broken those ties.

So Herbie can bash the Buckeyes and have his quotes pop up all over BP, but I can't bash Herbie since he played for tOSU? I'm not trying to be a smart ass...I honestly want to know. If so, I'll keep my hatred for him to myself, or offline at least.

Herbie is more of a Buckeye than anybody on here. People are ridiculous on here sometimes. I've never heard Herbie outright put down a Buckeye. Most of the stuff he said about Pryor is pretty much true. Kid needs to mature and he admitted it his self.

You mean you know everybody on here? Wow-that's quite an accomplishment!

That's a fair question, and I'll try to clarify things.

It's OK to criticize Herbie (I've done it in this thread), but it has to be done in a reasonable manner, and should include an explanation for the negative comments.

It might be easier for people to understand what I'm trying to say if I use examples.

OK:

"I think it's bullshit that Herbie dropped tOSU to #9 after they won the Sugar Bowl, what the hell can he be thinking?"

"He seems to only worry about his ESPN gig and he trashes tOSU way too much, I have no problem with TP calling him a 'fake Buckeye', he's completely sold out."

"The way he named guys that weren't invovled in the tat-5 thing on the air, and never apologed for, is pure horseshit. I won't forgive him for that until he makes a public apology."

"The way he hypes the SEC makes me sick, I can't stand to watch him any more."

NOT OK:
"He's a douchebag." "I hope he gets eaten by a shark." "Herbie sucks." "F*ck you Herbie." (I've deleted all of those this week)

"I hope he gags on Pete Carroll's dick."

"He should get gang-raped by Mark May, Jesse Palmer and Desmond Howard." (Now that I've used those, they don't need to be posted). :wink2:

So, avoiding name-calling and avoiding wishing evil upon him will help keep folks on the OK side. You can be critical, but it's best to not express hatred.
