QB Matthew Baldwin (transfer to TCU)

This could happen or you could just have first year starters continually go in the first round.

That certainly wouldn't hurt.

Back in the day UCLA under Terry Donahue had a series of one year starters that were all 5th year SR's who were all NFL draft picks. Looking it up, it seems maybe 1983-1986;

Tom Ramsey
Jay Schroeder
Steve Bono
David Norrie

Not sure of each of their class status's but it was 4 straight years of a QB being drafted.

I would love to see Day create that kind of NFL QB prep machine for recruiting purposes.

This is another possibility... start recruiting kids like Jalin Marshall again. Put them at WR and get them a few reps at QB along the way.

I actually think this might be a good solution. It's not like Jalin Marshall was the only high school QB that has been recruited to play another position. Torrance Gibson, Verlon Reed, and I think Evan Spencer were high school QBs.

Interesting.....

A writer on O-Zone (who might actually have some knowledge of the situation) posted this.

Apr 23, 2019 by Tony Gerdeman*.....Martell wanted to transfer last year. Baldwin was thinking of transferring before Fields even arrived.

Don't know about Baldwin wanting to xfer before he played Spring Game (or Fields arrived), but can certainly understand how this young man would feel (well, can imagine), coming back from ACL, not playing for a year, and then actually doing very well against top flight competition. Statistically he outplayed Fields, so he was probably feeling pretty good about himself after that game. Methinks that if (when?) he faced up to Coach Day and asked his status, he got the 'same old, same old' about waiting to see, need more time and snaps under center, and got frustrated. So he took what everyone seems to be dong and bolted. Sounds like he's gonna use the 'Martell excuse' - "well, they never really tried to keep me", so he's angling for automatic eligibility. The NCAA has basically permitted 'free agency' in college (at least in football, not so sure in basketball), and put up an 80% probability that he'll be declared eligible for 2019 season. Reading above, managing team content going forward will be difficult for ALL positions, not just the QBs. Glad I don't have to do it, but that's why these guys are being paid the big bucks.....Go Bucks!
