RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Hyde's size and speed really makes him a load to take down, especially in the 4th Quarter. Last week and then again this week, he really showed how valuable he is when we need to run out the clock.

It is nice seeing Rod Smith coming on to. He had some nice runs himself tonight.

Hyde is the difference maker for this offense. He gains the hard yards and gets up field. Hall is the explosion maker in this offense. He'll get the big chunks more often. I can only imagine what this offense would look like of he Hyde and Hall were lined up with Miller between them. They could pull a TE put Boren as a H-back with 2 wideouts and this offense could be just devastating.

I feel like Hyde has a very similar burst to Hall.

Anyone have any idea what the difference was between his first half YPC, and his second half YPC?

1Q 3 carries, 12 yards, 0 TD, 4.0 YPC
2Q 8 carries, 25 yards, 2 TD, 3.1 YPC
3Q 9 carries, 26 yards, 1 TD, 2.9 YPC
4Q 8 carries, 77 yards, 1 TD, 9.6 YPC
------------------------------------
1H 11 carries, 37 yards, 2 TD, 3.4 YPC
2H 17 carries, 103 yards, 2 TD, 6.1 YPC
--------------------------------------
Game 28 carries, 140 yards, 4 TD, 5.0 YPC

EDIT - Just for Nebraska....if you mean all season, then you're on your own. :p

Thanks, I was hoping it would look like that. I'm a firm believer a big back will wear a defense down over the course of a game. I'm hoping when Jordon comes back, he's used as more of a slot type guy.

Carlos Hyde eager for another big workout vs. Indiana: Ohio State Insider
Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer

Carlos Hyde's four touchdowns and 140 rushing yards against Nebraska earned Wednesday praise from OSU coach Urban Meyer. Marvin Fong, The Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The run was so good and his game was so good that Urban Meyer named running back Carlos Hyde the Buckeyes' offensive player of the game against Nebraska, despite his fourth-quarter fumble.

?I usually do not allow that to be player of the week, but he played very well for us,? Meyer said.

That one fumble was outweighed by other bigger numbers, like four touchdowns, 28 carries, 140 yards and the most important number of the game for Hyde ? 56 percent of his yards were gained after initial contact.

The junior running back doesn't have moves like quarterback Braxton Miller, but he proved he can get extra yards his own way, running through several tackles, especially on his run that led to the fumble.

?Even though he fumbled, I was like, 'That was a heck of a run,'? center Corey Linsley said. ?I was kind of amazed and stunned by that.?

Linsley said Hyde's rumbling was like running over tacklers in a football video game, a 240-pounder who couldn't be stopped by linebackers or safeties.

?I saw a lot of passion in him breaking through arm tackles and running really hard,? left guard Andrew Norwell said. ?And that makes us more fired up up front. We have his back and there he is doing his job and it makes us feel good.?

Hyde was practically giddy before last week while pondering whether he might get 20 or 25 carries. He got 28. And now he wants that again.

?Coach Meyer asked me that today, am I ready for 25 again?? Hyde said. ?Yes, I'm ready for that. That's part of being a running back.?

Part of the position for any good back is making yards on your own, not just off your blocks. Hyde, though, said he could have done even better in that regard.

?It's just having that determination that you're determined not to be stopped by one guy. It can't just be one guy tackling me, it has to be at least two or three guys that bring me down,? Hyde said. ?I watched the film and I left some yards out there, left some big yards out there. I'll be sure to fix that for the next game.?

Seems like the Buckeyes always have someone rush for over 100 yards against Indiana.

Decided to check and, yes, 8 out of the last 9 matches (dating back to 2001) have seen a Buckeye player rush for over 100 yards (even Lydell Ross had his way with the Hoosiers). 2010 being the only year without a Buckeye eclipsing 100 yards rushing (Herron, 68 yards).

Last year saw 3 (!!!) Buckeyes go over 100 yards- Herron 141, Hyde 105, and Miller 105 yards.

I definitely expect to see Hyde continue this trend and I'd venture his total gets closer to 150 this time.

Actually found the quarter by quarter splits for the year on his ESPN player page.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/splits/_/id/503303/carlos-hyde

Without typing everything out, it looks like his half splits bear out that he may be more effective as the game goes on and he wears people down.

1st Half
33 carries 125 yards 3.8 ypc

2nd Half
30 carries 173 yards 5.8 ypc

Here it is through all 4 quarters for the year. Hyde is averaging above 7 YPC during the 4th quarter. Crazy!

1st Quarter: 11 Attempts, 37 Yards, 3.4 YPC, 0 TDs
2nd Quarter: 22 Attempts, 88 Yards, 4.0 YPC, 3 TDs
3rd Quarter: 15 Attempts, 55 Yards, 3.7 YPC, 1 TD
4th Quarter: 15 Attempts, 118 Yards, 7.9 YPC, 2 TDs

Hyde suits are offensive identity better than Hall right now.(down hill, power) And I'm having doubts Hall gets backs to 100% before the season end.
We need Hyde to be the man at running back. He can be.
And Smith will help too!

So they're fresh, get worn down, recovered in the locker room some, then were killed.
