Stop running red lights and you don't have to worry about the flash. I've seen the flash once - when someone else was running a light.

We have a winner...
Don't do illegal stuff in your home and you don't have to worry about the lack of probable cause to search your home...

I have to tell you, this has already been discussed by the courts a bit.

If you don't want to pay the fine, obey the traffic laws; if somebody else was driving your vehicle at the time, it's up to you to get the payment from that person.

Who gets the points on their license? Do camera-citations still lead to points on your record and insurance-penalties like real tickets?

I had to look it up. Most counties around Chicago have no points on 'automated enforcement' tickets (such as red light cameras), but the responsibility for the fine is that of the registered owner (regardless of who's driving), in the same way that a parking ticket is around here.

Link (all states' laws on this topic are summarized)

It looks like a current Illinois state law will prevent local governments from issuing automated speeding tickets without an officer present to witness the alleged violation.

See, if I say 'alleged', I sound like a lawyer.

I saw a readers digest article that said adding one second to the length of a yellow light reduces accidents by 60%. I don't have a link. Until every single yellow light in a town has one second added to it, I refuse to believe that traffic cameras are anything more than money. Take the safety argument and shove it up your ass, respective municipality.

Yeah, but then everybody gets used to the new timing and you have to add another second and eventually you have a 10 minute yellow light. We just need more roundabouts.

Most if not all states are experiencing a money crunch right now so it's a good source of revenue. Cheaper than the man hours of police patrol. If NM is any indication, states are cracking down on speeding and violations in general. Bottom line.......slow down and obey all driving laws. It will save you money on fines and gas. Maybe even save lives.
