Traffic

It is my humble opinion that things like this happen because we are too cavalier towards safety and "my rights" take precedence over everything else and everyone.

So don't run the lights.

So don't drink and drive.

So don't text and talk on the cell phone while you drive...(I do it too, but its one of my pet peeves)

So don't drive like a maniac.

So be courteous behind the wheel and everywhere else too.

The constitution was written as a response to protect people from a King and Parliament that might tread on the rights of a budding democracy where the power of the government was a true threat. You do know that George Washington was given the title of "His Excellency George Washington?" Could these times be similar? Lets just give everything to everyone and be done with it.

What ever happened to the concept of Social Contract?

Perhaps my attempt to stir contreversy or did I just rant and loose my mind???????

There are a lot of these in the Chicago area, and many of them monitor right-turns-on-red specifically.

Since so many people do a rolling stop, these things are real money makers. It's not much of a safety issue, they're getting people turning a corner while slowing down to 1 or 2 mph, not drivers zipping though an intersection with a red light at 45 mph.

My town made $1 million dollars on 1 camera near a major mall, until they took it down after so many complaints from people saying they'd quit going to the mall.

My wife got caught at that spot near the mall, and the notification included a link to video of the car going through the corner. We paid it - I don't have a problem with the system being used as proof of guilt. If you don't want to pay the fine, obey the traffic laws; if somebody else was driving your vehicle at the time, it's up to you to get the payment from that person.

Illinois also has the I-pass system, which allows cars to zip through toll booth areas in I-pass-only lanes without even slowing down at all. This gives them the ability to prove that a car traveled from toll booth A to toll booth B in x:xx minutes and seconds; which means they could use the system to generate speeding tickets to about 90% of the cars on the Ilinois tollway system if they chose to do so. Most people are driving 70+ mph on 55 mph tollways, so it could solve a lot of budget issues. They have said that they will never do that - it would be a real shitstorm if that happened.

That's complete and total bullshit. If someone uses my knife to stab someone, I suppose I should be the one to retrieve the evidence. Give me a fucking break. They broke the law. My car did not. I did not. If they can't figure out who was driving, they shouldn't be able to issue a ticket.

Who flipping cares. It's a traffic law; get over it.
After the traffic laws, what next? Trespassing? Who cares, they just cut across the lawn; get over it. Didn't have your dog licensed, so they euthanized him, get over it.

We should have a list here of what laws are to be questioned and which are to be blindly followed.
Just shut up and pay up buddy!

Traffic courts have operated outside the "law" since they came about. So this is not a new phenomenon. If you're up in arms about this, why not about so many other elements of traffic enforcement? DUI laws are built around the "guilty until proven innocent" paradigm, as are many other traffic laws.

My point is simply this: red-light cameras are entirely consistent with the overall modus operandi of traffic laws and their enforcement. And the penalty for violating the red-light rule is a fine and points, not imprisonment. So arguing about it is not worth the grief for most of us. If it is for you, fine. Knock yourself out.

That's pretty much what we were doing, but thanks for the permission.

1. My permission is needed for no purpose whatsoever.

2. Big difference in time expenditure between complaint posting on a sports message board and fighting this in municipal government. First is an enjoyable waste of a little time; second is an excruciating waste of a lot of time.

Yup... one of these bastards got me between Roselle and Bloomingdale a few months ago. Now I avoid the intersection completely. I drive through a residential area. I'm sure that's what they intended to have happen when they decided to put the camera up there on that pole. But guess what... since I've started driving through that neighborhood... I've noticed a lot more traffic doing the same. Makes ya wonder, no?

Most of the people behind the movement to have the cameras removed from Heath were business owners along S.R.79. They noticed a significant decline in business...significant enough to fight the cameras anyway. So they put it on the ballot...which is where it should have started anyway. They don't have them anymore. Also, I don't have a link and don't feel like looking for one, but there was virtually no change in accidents. It's not about safety. It's about money. Just like seat belts.

Stop running red lights and you don't have to worry about the flash. I've seen the flash once - when someone else was running a light.
