Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

I put together a short list of teams that have good young pitching that are in need of a big bat like Dunn. This is all predicated on the premise that Cincinnati resigns Dunn and then trades him. 4 of the teams are AL teams, which is where Dunn would obviously fit better because of his complete lack of everything defense, and thus could just DH. But, San Diego needs a big bat so badly that they might be willing to overlook that fact that he can barely catch a baseball.

San Diego
Toronto
Angels
Oakland
Kansas City

Oakland has the best mix of young pitching talent in both the majors and the minors (where they are loaded) to make a good offer for Dunn. However, Oakland is just barely more willing than the Reds to spend money. The Angels, while they dont have great pitching prospects to offer, could pay Dunn what he would be making and thus might make it the mostly likely destination. But hey, I dont know crap about baseball anyways.

Former Cubs manager Baker interviews with Reds

Former San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker has interviewed with the Cincinnati Reds for their vacant manager position.
The Reds have been seeking a high-profile manager to replace Jerry Naron, who was fired midseason. Interim manager Pete Mackanin has also been considered a candidate for the job.
Baker is a three-time NL Manager of the Year. He took his previous teams to the brink of titles, leading the Giants to the World Series in 2002 and the Cubs to the NLCS in 2003.

Sounds more and more like its a done deal.

Oh well, like I said, I can't root for another team but I can't support these guys anymore if they pull this one.

The only hope this franchise had was its youth. Now they bring in a vet loving abuser of young pitchers....absolutely fucking brilliant.

I'll be back at the next FO regime change, this one has shown me all I need to see.

What if the front office makes some bold moves like acquiring Juan Guzman, Bill Swift, Pete Harnisch, Duane Ward, Mike Scott or Ben McDonald?

Maybe the Reds could develop a reality show with Rod Beck as GM in something akin to Weekend at Bernies III. I'm not sure the results could get any worse.

Do people honestly think this team is a player a way from contending? I used to love Hal McCoy but he sounds like some in the Bunker in April '45 that a quick fix is a trade away and leaving Pete as manager.

If Dusty is hired business will be good for this man.

Wow....I'm feel sorry for you guys. Baker is good with established talent, but a team that needs a rebuild or a restructuring like the Reds do aren't normally his forte.....

So what's the over/under on the number of innings Homer gets this coming year? I'd put it at 250.5.....
