2018 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

I think watching the ratings and doing the calculations as to who has the best class is a fun thing, but I don't take it nearly as serious as I do knowing that if Pantoni has identified the guy, and the guy has been made a committable offer by Ohio State, the guy has a great chance of being able to excel at the college level. Don't get me wrong, I think the recruitnik game has improved over the years and they do a pretty good job ranking guys and so on... but, "trust the coaches" is a cliche around here for a reason.

Some other notables:

If you moved down 4-10 spots you basically stayed in the same range you were before. Just others got moved up. No big complaints from me with these rankings.
5-star QB JT Daniels reclassifies from the 2019 class and immediately goes to 6.
Surtain and Campbell at 11 and 12 respectively. Nice set of corners for one HS team.
Cameron McGrone, Michigan's highest rated signee, moved up 8 spots to 24. His composite ranking however is 181. That's all Wiltfong.
Vincent slid 21 spots. Don't think it was warranted but not that big of a deal. His composite ranking is still 16.
NC State absolutely stole on in Payton Wilson at 39. They also got Ricky Person at 41. They put a sneaky good class together.
247 bumped Nesta Silvera up 143 spots to 42.
Solomon Tuliaupupu at 54. Don't think we even see an official there which is a shame.
Woodbey dropped 10 spots to 55.
247 has Brenton Cox at 60, composite has him at 24. That one stings a little.
Oweh up 26 spots to 71. He could be a good one.
Otis Reese at 73 is Michigan's next verbal in the rankings. He got a 42 spot bump. Again, that's all Wiltfong, although he may not be in UM's class much longer.
Snead moved up 33 spots which I think was definitely warranted.
Another UM commit in Hutchinson at 88. Got bumped up 79 spots.
Togiai moved up 119 spots. Shows what having a good week at an all-star game can do for a kids from Idaho.
Greg Emerson is a kid I really liked at 112. No need with the DL haul OSU landed but I think he'll be a good one.
Phil Jurkovec at 115. Wasn't he in 5-star territory a year ago?
Anthony Cook at 120. Dropped 16 spots. Composite still have him at 39 but 247 is bearish on him.
UM signee Jalen Mayfield slides to 126 after previously being in the top 100.
127 for JBB might be a little high but I know Brian Dohn is really hot on him.
UM has another at 140 in project Ryan Hayes. He has potential and height but that's about all he has right now. 247 has him way higher than anyone else.
Most other services like Friday a lot more than 247. Composite is 86.
ND signee Derrik Allen at 161...really liked him as well.
Ohioan Xavier Peters at 165. Joined by Darrius Kinnard at 178. Two nice gets for UK.
Hey there, Emory Jones. Nice to see you at 173.
Chris Olave at 210. Don't see that one happening either.
Cameron Brown got a bump of 90 spots. Again, well deserved.
Another Michigan commit at 227 in Mustapha Muhammad, who fell 72 spots.
One time Buckeye lean Michael Harris rounds out the Top 247.
Down year for Ohio as only 8 guys make the final 247. Next in line were MSU commits and Pick North teammates Henderson and Gillison followed by Josh Whyle, Chase Kline, Tavion Thomas, Michael Dowell and John Dirksen rounding out the top 15 players in the state according to 247.
Michigan sitting at 6 players in the top 247 compared to OSU basically having their entire class. Talent wins.

Heard Wiltfong on a podcast (won't link it 'cause it's such BS) talking like Michigan had the best recruiting class in the country. Sounded like Cameron McGrone was his love child or something. A really pathetic effort from a guy who is usually pretty good.

is there a reason why he would have a *ich bias?
No idea. He got his start in South Bend as a Notre Dame writer. Now he's Director of Recruiting for 247 Sports. Maybe he's just trying just trying to "sell" the OSU-UM rivalry angle by pumping up Michigan's recruiting class. He's literally the only recruiting expert who thinks Michigan's class is better than mediocre.

Rivals rankings:

14 Tyreke Johnson 5*
#20 Teradja Mitchell 5*
#34 Tyreke Smith 4* (33 5-stars, so highest ranking 4-star)
#39 Blue Smith 4*
#40 Taron Vincent 4*
#41 Jaelen Gill 4*
#66 Brian Snead 4*
#68 Tyler Friday 4*
#76 Tommy Togiai 4*
#80 Josh Proctor 4*
#100 K'Vaughan Pope 4*

In the running for

#11 Nick Petit-Frere 5*

The fact that Jeremy Ruckert isn't in their top 100 causes me to question the validity of this list...
