Russell Commits to Ohio State
By Duane Long
Date: Dec 12, 2004

Anderson Russell of Atlanta, Georgia came up to Ohio State on an official visit this weekend and left a Buckeye. Duane Long has some quotes from the latest commitment.

Ohio State landed a commitment from defensive back Anderson Russell of Atlanta, Georgia today. The Marist High School product talked about his visit.

"It went beautifully," Russell said. "I committed. I'm going to be a Buckeye."

Russell is sure of his choice and will not take any more trips.

"No more visits," Russell said. "I'm done with it. I can't wait to get up there and start working out with the other guys."

Russell is moving a long way from home, but it does not seem to be a problem.

"I talked to my parents," he said. "They're both fine with it. They just asked me to be sure that's what I wanted to do, and I am."

Russell was hosted by two future defensive backfield teammates.

"Brandon Mitchell and Nate Salley," he said. "They were the best."

Russell is the 13th commitment to Ohio State's 2005 recruiting class. Ohio State and Duke were his final two choices.

Alot of people assume hes going to play safety but Remember Ira Guilford ended up playing some RB. I hope he tears it up in the weight room and pushes for some PT. HE NEEDS TO HANG OUT WITH SIRJO WELCH. Get that nasty streak and hit somebody next year.

ira guilford played rb out of necessity only. As for russell, he is a pure athlete. If Tucker can mold him, he'll be a big contributor.

re: Anderson being under the radar without any bigtime offers to speak of, Donnie Nickey was another safety that accepted an offer to Ohio U. before OSU offered him.

Although not the strongest link on our defense during his tenure, he was a 4 year starter
fwiw

Well verticle jump test don't lie. People can BS their 40 times but the Vert test are very accurate. 39 INCHES!!! Are you kidding me. He had 16 bench reps so the kid is very strong for a DB prospect. This kid IMO is a diamond in the rough. His Atlanta Nike Camp 40 time may be an accurate time. IMO we stole one here.
