S Anderson Russell (official thread)

I haven't heard the severity of his injury yet. I was hoping to pop on here and see if anyone had heard anything difinitive yet. I'm an athletic trainer so maybe I can shed some light on the situation. I'm hearing a lot of people say that "it's only an ankle sprain, should be back in a couple of weeks". An ankle sprain can be something you can come back from in 2 days, or it can be something that lingers for months. When you are dealing with sprains you are talking about ligament attachments from bone to bone. Sometimes they can be so dibilitating fractures will heal faster. There are differing degrees of sprains ranging from a stretch of the ligament to a full fledge tear. I know he is coming back from an ACL from last year but I think I've heard Tress mention that he was battling this ankle problem since the spring. Hopefully it's on the non-severe side of things. We need his play-making abilities in the seconday. They do seem to play with a lttle extra swagger when he is in when they are in their regular 4-3 set. GO BUCKS

Anderson Russell is listed as a starter for the Michigan State game in the weekly depth chart released by Ohio State football office. He's backed up by Gant and Coleman is backed up by Jamario. It goes on to list Ray Small as Russell's replacement for kick returns.

Although it may look like a cheap shot, Ohio State's receivers do the same thing. It is actually taught and encouraged to do at Ohio State, and is called a cut block. (Watch Hartline on run plays, he is pretty good at it.)

Sorry but Hartline does not try to bury his shoulder pads in the back of a player's knee. You can end careers that way.

OSU's Russell should be ready for Spartans

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- After entering the postgame locker room last Saturday on crutches and with his right ankle in a soft boot, Ohio State sophomore free safety Anderson Russell is expected to be ready for the Buckeyes against Michigan State this Saturday.
That's according to a source who said, "The doctor said he's lucky he didn't break his leg, but that's the kind of stuff he's made of."
Russell was injured on a second-quarter running play against Kent State. He was helped off the field, iced his ankle, was carted off and didn't return.

Awesome!

With my years of experience diagnosing lower leg injuries as seen from a distance while watching television, I thought for sure he had blown another knee ligament. I'm ecstatic to be wrong! :banger:
