S Donte Whitner (Official Thread)

First Tarblooder to make the jump, by the way. Hopefully the first of MANY.

Actually, I hope he's the last Tarblooder to leave early...I want all our Tarblooders to make it to the NFL but just take their four full years of eligibility to do so.

Only AJ was a greater loss than Donte, Best of luck

I'd say Carpenter will be a slightly bigger loss. Either way, I wish the best for Donte, and I'm sure he'll do as well as any of our recent safeties in the pros...

the page before it would be a useful read...

thats what i get for skimming :p. this is a very painful loss. ill refrain from a knee jerk reaction. but i was really hoping he would stick around for another year. while aj hawk was the leader on defense, boby carpenter was the teams emotional leader. i expected donte to take over atleast one if not both those roles. the lack of leadership will hurt us the most with this loss.

good luck donte. :osu: :)

Today on Rome's ESPN show, he interviewed Michael Huff from UT. All I kept thinking was how Donte could have possibly done the same things that Huff did this year (be a team leader, win the Thorpe award, win a NC) if he had only returned for his senior season like Huff did. It reminded me of Doss, who returned for his senior year b/c he wanted to lead tOSU to a NC, even though he could have jumped to the NFL after his junior year. Man, I just keep thinking that our defense, having lost AJ, Bobby, Anthony, Tyler, Nate, Marcus, etc., really needed a leader next year and Donte would have been the perfect one to do it. Depressing.
