S/LB Jer'Male Hines (official thread)

Jermale Hines needs to change his number.

If he got number 57, he'd be a living advertisement of this:

Just thinking out loud here...xD

I'm sure I'm speaking for more then myself. I've been quite impressed with Jermale this season. His coverage skills are still raw, but he always seems to be around the ball. He kind of reminds me of Dallas' Roy Williams. He's a ball hawk, he lowers the boom, but the one thing holding him back is his coverage. He's got all the tools to be great, hopefully he has the will. He's only a sophomore so he has plenty of time to get that on track.

He'll get better. Even if he doesn't, I'm glad we have him. Kid can bring the wood.

Agreed. After seeing him play you can see the great great potential. He will be playing on sundays. He could be our next great one with Sabino.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
JERMALE HINES, DB, OHIO STATE

Whether Jermale Hines starts for Ohio State against Purdue remains to be seen, but the nickel back knows he's going to play a lot more than last week.
As safeties coach Paul Haynes deadpanned: "Purdue runs a lot of spread."
Against most multiple-receiver spread
offenses, the Buckeyes reach for the nickel -- five defensive backs -- to cover the waterfront. Hines has excelled in the role of the fifth DB, usually playing inside as an extra strong safety who can add some linebacker pop, important against a spread team such as Purdue that likes to use running back Kory Sheets.

This guy just makes plays. He's perfect for the college game today with all the spread offenses and 3+ WR sets since he's a real OLB/SS tweener. I think there's a great chance that he replaces Freeman as our starting Sam linebacker next year which will really make our defense dynamic since we don't have to change from our base defense on passing downs - he can just move from sam to nickelback.

Young, though.

Got burned pretty nasty on a play action. Just a product of being too excited to make the play.

But he does seem to be around the ball a great ton.
I can accept that as a fan as do most coaches. It's those times that player plays like they could care less and it shows. I think with Jermale, he'll only get better as he learns how to focus that excitement and energy.
