San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

The thing is the 49ers shouldn’t have let it come to that.
Nope, but not surprising. Coming off a gauntlet of GB/BAL/NO, the last of which was a slugfest emotional road win, plus losing their starting C for the year, plus being without Sherman/Tartt = classic hangover game.

The loss of Richberg is a serious blow. The OL was a mess for long stretches yesterday, so I'm not overly optimistic about that improving. Could be a fatal blow for a team that has already been hit very hard with injuries this year. We'll see, they've overcome a lot injury-wise to this point, so maybe they do it again.

This time of year injuries are the difference among teams..Vikings could be done if Dalvin Cook is out.

Definitely.

As a Niners fan, I wish they'd take a look at their training staff. Over the past 4-5 years, this team has been so snake-bitten by injuries, it's bordering on parody. Every team deals with injuries, but what has gone on in Santa Clara is ridiculous.

Jimmy G comes up clutch again. He has some real flaws, but he has that clutch gene.

That said, I have some real concerns about the OL heading into the postseason without Richburg. It’s...not good.

X factor: Coach Kyle Shanahan's playcalling. Of everything the 49ers have going for them, the best might be Shanahan's ability to set up defenses and choose the perfect time for an unconventional play. It's no accident when you see 49ers receivers running wide open across the field. It's also not surprising to note that 49ers running backs have ranked among the NFL's top five all season in average yards gained before contact. Shanahan on game day might be the 49ers' best weapon of all.
Best play caller in the NFL right now, IMO. When you look at the personnel on this offense, aside from Jimmy and Kittle, it looks like a lot of spare parts. But UFAs like Mostert and Breida have been huge in the run game, another UFA Kendrick Bourne has made some big plays in the passing game and they found themselves a steal in Deebo Samuel who has played like a legit #1 receiver over the second half of the season.
