San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

This team has exceeded my expectations all year long. Funnest NFL season for me in years. Coming into the year, I would have been happy with 9 wins and competing for a playoff spot. Now, one win from the first Championship in 25 years.

I know he hasn't been winning these games for them, but that trade for Jimmy G two years ago was a transformative move. The guy is a winner and, more importantly, he gets the people around him to buy in and play like winners, too.

I was very happy with the Shanahan hire and after a decade of Trent Baalke was more than willing to give Lynch a chance as GM. What those two have built in such a short time, given the absolute dumpster-fire they inherited, is nothing short of amazing. To find lightly regarded college players like George Kittle, Raheem Mostert, Fred Werner and Deebo Samuel and have them turn into lynchpins on their respective sides of the ball is awesome. They focused on building the lines and supplemented them with smart veteran FA additions like Richard Sherman and Kwon Alexander. Sustainment is the biggest challenge in today's NFL, but the Niners have a nice combo of coaching and front office to do it. It helps that the doofus CEO has stayed out of the way.

Harbaugh who?

Insightful article on Jed York. Just a couple of years ago, he was another doofus owner whose meddling was fucking up his own franchise. Somewhere in the past couple of years, he’s learned to get out of the fucking way and let the football guys do the football stuff. He made a couple of very smart hires in John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan and now they’ve climbed back to the top of the mountain after appearing hopeless as recently as 27 months ago.
